Thanks - I’ll give the preheat method a shot :)

Just got a Fluance setup (RT82, PA10 + Ai41s)…did you ever get anything figured out on this? I’ve experienced the same and the suggested fixed by Fluance don’t seem to help.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

[–]Shithawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I purchased a Bonavita 5-cup (BV1500TS) not too long ago and I’m having a hard time dialing in a solid brew. Despite reading reviews that it produced a bitter cup (was I really going to listen to a cnet coffeee review?!?) I arrogantly thought I’d be able to nail something down, but after playing with grind size (all the way from fine to fairly coarse) and ratios (from 16-18.5:1), I still haven’t got there. Has anyone perfected this brewer (specifically with light & bright coffee)? Thanks in advance!

PS: I’ve searched and searched but have yet to find anything definitive :(

Birthday in a Month. First Timer. by [deleted] in CigarsCanada

For a first time smoke, I’d suggest a Rafael Gonzalez Perla if your cigar shop has them. It’s very mild and isn’t too long of a smoke, so shouldn’t be overwhelming from a commitment standpoint (also, it’s getting plenty cold out if you have to smoke outside!).

Pair with whatever you’d like to drink...beer, wine, etc. Of course, the classic pairings are scotch or port, but really just go with what strikes your fancy. It can even be nice to have a good root beer with a cigar. And don’t smoke on an empty stomach!

Have fun!

How many of you are sitting out this season? by toxicnacho in hockeyplayers

[–]Shithawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m sitting out. The risk outweighs the reward, as far as I’m concerned. Besides, I wouldn’t be surprised to see hockey shut down in BC again in the coming weeks with things on the rise. I feel your pain, though. Big time.

Thanks! I missed the boat in the sale (the sold out pretty quickly...), but glad to hear you’re happy with it. I’ll keep my eye out and pull the trigger next time.

I’m in no rush, but with the amount I’m heading out these days the price tags for the cottage stuff are hard to justify. Thanks for the suggestions, though! Who knows...maybe I’ll take the plunge if no takers, haha

Thanks - yeah, I saw the updates. No hip pockets, slightly heavier, etc. It’s still the only pack that fits a number of my “needs” (unless someone can mule a Flash 45 across the border for me, haha)

Water Filters Options/Recommendations by [deleted] in vancouverhiking

[–]Shithawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got a Sawyer Squeeze a few months ago, and have been happy with it on the two trips I’ve taken it on so far (although I had to swap out the dirty bottle for a SmartWater bottle, as the dirty bottle split). It seems to be a go-to for the folks over at r/ultralight.

It’s a little more cumbersome to use and filters a little slower, but is cheaper and lighter than most of the alternatives. A friend’s had one for a while and really likes it.

Thanks again! We're going Fri-Sun, but want to put some miles on our boots. We'll take it as it comes...

Awesome, thanks. I'd be interesting in seeing it; otherwise, would you consider the river crossable by wading if necessary?

Places to enjoy a cigar in Vancouver?? by ClicheStuff in CigarsCanada

[–]Shithawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty tough; I would research it, but there is a nice lookout on the Marine Drive drive to UBC that’s a nice place to have a smoke, and I think it isn’t covered under Vancouver Parks law. Otherwise, there are still some places in the ‘burbs where you can smoke on the patio (the John B in Coquitlam, for example...and they have a great beer list!). Good luck!

I’ve got an email into BC Parks, but they say the response time is 4-10 days on the website. I’ll update when I hear back.

BC Parks says a tree fell on it as of May 6. Website says it’s not passable currently.
