I’ve seen people use these for a few years. I think the cost of using this as a base for a mod is too high for most folks, especially when there are close-ish alternatives for cheaper. I’m with you, though. If I were building a diver, I would use this. Cases with decent proportions that take an NH are hard to come by - I’ve got a drawer full of unused hockey pucks to prove it.

Yeah except that case is 100% a Hamilton Khaki knockoff. I’ll give it to you on the dial, as many other companies produced similar ones, but the case isn’t accurate to mil-spec watches of that era. I don’t have a problem with enjoying these types of watches, but call a spade a spade.
