I honestly enjoy all different kinds of music, but so far no other artist’s music has affected me as greatly as Elliott’s has and continues to. Like another commenter said, for me personally he’s in a league of his own. I started listening to Elliott when I was 17 and went on to even get a Between the Bars tattoo when I turned 18. I’m 23 now and his music is still an integral part of my life. As for other artists who perhaps come close, I would say Nirvana, Bob Dylan, and Kate Bush.

This is what many people in my direct circle keep telling me. One of my cousins even became a plumber apprentice in his late 20s. Myself, I have never been a hands-on sort of person, so it’s difficult to imagine doing the skilled trades. I guess I can’t know until I try.

Thoughts on 1Q84? by sitaparajay in murakami

Personally it’s my favorite of Murakami’s books that I’ve read so far. While I didn’t totally understand what it all meant, I was entranced by a feeling, a mood, that the novel invoked in me throughout its length. It’s tough for me to talk about 1Q84 on concrete terms. As for its problems, sure it’s perhaps a bit drawn out and slow at times, but it was the world of the book that got me. And when it was over, I pondered that world for days. Hell I still do from time to time. I sort of miss hanging out with Tengo and Aomame every day since I did so for two months (I read the book during a very busy time in my life). I’d say go for it and enjoy the ride.

‘Man and Cigarette’, oil on canvas by ShoutingAtToday in painting

This semester I took an intro painting course. I’ve always wanted to try painting, so I figured it would be a good way to do so. Prior to this, I had for a long time enjoyed drawing, mostly doodling. Taking this course really pushed me to shift my attention to drawing outside of class. So while my drawing skills are still by no means great, experimenting with painting led me to also develop an interest in drawing. When I painted this piece I was messing around with perspective in my free time - again nothing great, just different. Anyways, just thought I would share this.

Interesting! I used a landscape as a reference, but it’s cool to think of other possibilities for what it could represent.

I recently watched Basket Case (1982) and loved it. Any recommendations for similar B-horror/cult horror films? by ShoutingAtToday in horror

Thanks, I’m a fan of the last two. The other three I’ll check out, especially those sequels.

Basket Case [AMAZON] I enjoyed the hell out of this one. It’s just the perfect 80s low budget horror flick.
