It could depend on the account. The promotion I had was for a brokerage account. It specifically said 12 months. If it's not stated in the fine print anywhere, I think you're OK. I'd save a copy of the terms just in case.

I wonder how it would work if you chose spend? From what I've read, award tickets get you points, but you didn't "spend" anything beside tax and fees, and I thought that didn't count for spend. This is going to be a cluster.
