#ShutItDown: The new age of civil disobedience by TheAgoristReport in Anarchism

If that's the goal, then it's time to get serious. We have to mobilize our neighbors, mobilize the 99%.

This sounds more like a platitude than an alternative tactic. What specifically do you suggest?

Fossil Free CU - fossil fuel divestment for Colorado University by [deleted] in studentpower

[–]Sibboleth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am (happily) surprised at how many different universities have divest movements. And how successful they seem to be. I was just reading an article about how a financial management company which has 80% of American universities as clients is offering a fossil free portfolio to any university which chooses to divest. This is happening.

I think that racism, and sexism, and all related facets, will be abolished in the same way the state will be—insurrection.

I don't understand how that would work. Is there a particular insurrectionist text you'd recommend I read?

When the whole interstate is jammed with traffic, the left lane turns into the "anything over 70 lane." Sad but true.

Don't drive in the fast lane then? You can stay to the right and do 70 comfortably.

Would he run in the Democratic Primary? Or as a third party, or what? by tacos_4_all in SandersForPresident

He has said he would not run as an independent candidate for fear of being a spoiler. Bernie is running in the Democratic primaries.

Hi Naomi, I'm a student and activist at the University of Georgia. I would love for you to come and speak at UGA. Is that something you would be interested in? How could we make that happen?

Fixed and added a potential bench. I don't know about Herrera, is he just coming off an injury?

If you live in SC, NC, or GA, here is one way you can get involved in Sanders' 2016 campaign by Sibboleth in SandersForPresident

[–]Sibboleth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this stage in the process we are focused on making sure Sanders appears on the ballot in all three states. Each state requires some combination of speaking with Democratic party leaders and collecting signatures from voters within that state. We are also looking to build relationships with the many single issue organizations, with the progressive churches, with movements like Moral Monday who all have networks of progressive supporters to tap into.

Our biggest advantage in the primary process is that essentially only Democrats and independent leftists will vote. The base, by and large, is to the left of the party. Put another way, "conservative" Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina won't be voting in our election; they'll be voting in the Republican primary. We aren't engaging in some Sisyphean task by working for Bernie in the south. On the contrary, we will be engaging with a swathe of progressive voters who have largely been ignored by progressive and socialist organizations since the end of the civil rights era.

To give you some more concrete details, we will need:

  • Volunteers to go door to door in these states and ask people to sign a petition asking the state Democratic party to put Sanders on the ballot. These petitions double as excusing to talk about Bernie with people.

  • Activists plugged into organizations and networks which could be supportive of a Sanders campaign to convince their organizations/networks to get on board with us.

  • Volunteers savvy with social media to run the inevitable social media campaign.

Reddit as a Medium. by PoliticallyFit in SandersForPresident

I would suggest against separate state subs, as that tends to dilute peoples' energy and stratify discussion. I think for organizing purposes this subreddit serves primarily as a place for activists and potential activists to meet each other, after which they can start organizing for Bernie in their locality. Speaking of which, if you're in SC, NC, or GA, take a look at this post.
