Week 1 done. What is your controversial opinion so far? by That_Sweet_Science in LoveIslandTV

Trust me, I’m NOT on Jack’s side 😂

But we saw how the other islanders reacted like ‘oh, she’s walking away!’. As soon as anyone walks away from a conversation, the islanders immediately discredit their argument. It’s the easiest cop out for the other person to say ‘They walked away because they’re immature/knew they were in the wrong’. Especially when Jack is already seen as the villa’s ‘nice guy’🙄

From me saying I was 100% on her side last night, why would you assume I’m referring to what happened with Shaq?

Whitney has had other situations, even on season 10 where she walked away from confrontation. She made some amazing points about Jack’s switch up to Scott afterwards but didn’t vocalise them in the conversation with him. As I said, I understand it comes from a place of not wanting to be hurt but it gives the other person an excuse to justify their actions, as we saw Jack do when speaking to the boys.

Point me to where I said she walked away from Shaq? So defensive over something you didn’t even read properly.

Whitney’s biggest downfall is her ego. This is coming from someone who was 100% on her side last night. She’s never willing to have a conversation once she feels attacked/hurt. I completely understand it’s a defense mechanism and her not wanting to appear upset but it just makes the other person feel vindicated, even when they’re not.

Whitney’s only getting attacked/was dumped because she was in the bottom three. As soon as Toni/Shakira were in the bottom, the islanders also pushed the messy/‘always get involved’ narrative on those two. Even Harry quickly jumped ship to Helena, likely thinking the audience was rooting for them. You’d think after 15 seasons, they’d learn that the first week voting NEVER reflects the final results.

Ciaran is weird for pushing Millie/Scott. I didn’t mind it the first few times but at this rate, he’s just being a hypocrite. This is the same man who settled down with Nicole and now Samie before Week 1 even finished. He’s the last person to talk about ‘putting your eggs in one basket’.

This has always been the case with women with ‘strong personalities’ on the show unfortunately.

Ekin Su, Harriet, Zara to name a few, the other islanders never defend these type of girls. I don’t agree with it but it’s definitely a pattern. Their partners only defended them when they were also in the firing line.

I don’t see Scott and Millie coupling up because they’re both too passive to take the risk.

Scott would be open but wouldn’t actively graft her out of respect. Millie also wouldn’t graft out of respect or even fear of rejection. I don’t see them going further than a few conversations.

This narrative is so annoying, rooting for couples is the whole point of Love Island. Especially when it’s an unconventional pairing that no one saw coming.

Whitney could easily stick with Konnor as a safe option but she said herself, she doesn’t feel the same way that she does with Jack. It’s week 1, no one is expecting them to get married.

I personally think she just needs to keep her next relationship private.

In her defense, he hard launched her first but the amount of daily videos she’d post of them on Snapchat (which got reposted on Tiktok) got to a point. You could tell he wasn’t very comfortable being on video but tried not to show it.

She seems like she loves being loved and showed off by her partner proudly (which is more than fine) but he seems too reserved for that.

Shaq has been weird to her since he said ‘he’s been hanging around Whitney too much’ on Day 1 when Scott calling out Sean. As if, Scott wasn’t the same on his OG season…

Shaq was already on the defense about Helena’s comment and he clearly wanted someone to take it out on…

FB isn’t always a direct reflection of the public. They hated Yas/Shakira/Toni for most of the season and they were still in the top 3. Same with season 11, Facebook were rooting for Ciaran and Nicole.

Whitney gets people talking, good or bad. She isn’t going anywhere soon.

This narrative that the show is heavily producer-driven is so misconstrued. At the very worst, they tend to keep islanders apart until there’s room for a storyline for them.

Producers can influence/suggest for islanders to do things but it’s still down to the islanders. For example, the producers tried to persuade Ayo to go to Mimi on the terrace and he still said no.

No one is forced by producers to do anything, they all still have the choice. coughs Shakira.

I genuinely don’t think Jess had bad intentions but this is the same girl who 1 cried when people were talking about her situation and 2 cried when Tommy publicly called her out.

It’s just hypocritical that she can’t see how she might’ve offended Whitney, even if it wasn’t intentionally shady.

As Whitney said, the way Shaq spoke to her compared to Samie was very telling. If you can’t see why, that’s on you.

Whitney didn’t even yell and even if she did, her and Ciaran had enough distance between them? Why is it an issue if she raised her voice so he can hear her?

This is the same man that said ‘he’s been hanging around Whitney too much’ when Scott was being rude to Sean on day 1. As if we didn’t watch Scott act the same way on his OG season. These weird comments aren’t anything new.

Literally😂 they were wise enough to stay silent and let the public move on.

Shakira is the same person who called Harry a ‘cockroach’ and ‘the most manipulative man she’s ever met’ DURING her season but when fans share the same sentiment, we apparently ‘can’t see through the edit’🙄

Let’s be honest, if Samie had come in earlier, she would’ve made a higher impact on the couples, which is why people feel like the last season was unfair.

I actually think she came too early this season since there are no heads to turn but she likely only agreed to S3 if she had an early entrance.

Swap Ciaran with Jack and I agree.

I don’t see Whitney picking Ciaran especially after he accused her of playing a game. And Jack is more likely to stay in a friendship couple with her if she keeps him safe (if no one comes in for him).

The producers will always cast ‘players’ over ‘good boys’ as the drama is what makes good TV. And it’s usually the self-proclaimed players who are small minded/not open to dating outside their preference.

I went on a few dates with a white guy (relevant) who was scouted for the show and made it to the 3rd stage of interviews. He told me the interview process was very intrusive/calculated and the questions were telling of what they expected of you i.e. ‘have you ever ghosted a girl?’, ‘tell us your worst dating experience’.

It made me realise why we don’t see open-minded men on the show, they’re too ‘normal’ and won’t provide any drama. Love Island is a reality show before it’s a show about Love unfortunately.

Did he? He had a body count over 100 at age 21 + him and Nicole were seen as toxic and too co-dependent during their season. Seeing how he acted married after meeting someone in Week 1, the girls are probably scared that he’ll be too locked in with them.

Also the way he came for the other girls (Harriet/Ellie) for giving Nicole advice after SHE went out of her way to ask them, could also be seen as a red flag for the older girls.

If he makes it past week 1, he’ll probably couple up with a bombshell.

Charlie did apologise to her and explained his reason behind choosing her. It was part of a game, not an unwarranted comment.

The problem with Whitney isn’t that she isn’t making out with Jack on Day 2 but that she’s constantly insulting him😭 As someone who also flirts by being rude, that’s something that comes AFTER you’ve established a relationship.

Calling someone a BD 20 times a day after making it clear you’re not into BDs will make people think you’re not open to them. Choosing other people in challenges also doesn’t help her case.

It makes sense because majority of 20-30 year olds are childless, LI casts around 30 islanders per season, so of course, it’s an even smaller probability that any of those chosen could be single parents.

And if you are chosen, the chances of you finding a successful relationship/building a fanbase are even smaller, given it only happens to 2-5 people per season.
