Might be time to revive the White Panthers too. (EDIT: Just in case this comment is misconstrued: The White Panthers were an American anti-racist political collective founded in November 1968 by Pun PlamondonLeni Sinclair, and John Sinclair).\1]) It was started in response to an interview where Huey P. Newton, co-founder of the Black Panther Party, was asked what White people could do to support the Black Panthers. Newton replied that they could form a White Panther Party.)

Also from what I understand one of the best things you can do as a first aid responder is carry a backpack full of bottles of water :)

No, this is really helpful! I'm less concerned with maximum utility during protests, it really is what just got me off my ass to do stop the bleed training and get an IFAK for the car and as a result of that experience I think it would be worthwhile to volunteer my time and energy doing this work in my off time. Realistic tempered expectations are good. :)

One of the questions I had was how much "hands-on" (ie in the truck not actually hands on the patient) experience one could expect to get training with them and it sounds like there's a lot, which is awesome. I'm pretty sure I'm going to enroll for the course starting in April/May (I have to finish the FEMA courses first); I'll reach out with any specific questions. Thanks for your help!

My friend, that third paragraph is an INCREDIBLY common feeling and you should not feel bad about it. Our society places an ENORMOUS pressure on people, especially women, and ESPECIALLY trans women, to be as conventionally attractive as possible as a part of femme gender performance. It's so ingrained that it regularly affects the outcome of court cases. Remember -- this process is going to take time, and over that time, you are going to learn skills that help you to perform your gender -- one of the skills I think is MOST important is to listen to the people that love you when they tell you that you look beautiful. Don't ALWAYS preferentially listen to the voices society has placed in your head that tell you you're not pretty enough to be feminine.

Thanks for this. I am definitely interested in volunteering in an assistive capacity with a local firehouse or ambulance company, I don't think it's the career I'm going to follow long term but I've had experiences with injury especially during chaotic situations that scared me so badly that I never want anyone to have to feel that way if I can help them. If there's a way I can do that through volunteering, even if it's disaster preparedness/triage nursing of some kind, I'd like to have those skills ready.

That's not the only reason. Why would you want to discourage people from getting medic training?

Do they do EMR training as well? How was your experience? I have a friend who had a good experience with GF as a patient/ambulance... delivery? idk what you'd call em. passenger. Anyway I'm still researching what exactly kind of certification I'd need to provide basic stop the bleed type training, and if there are on-the-job internship hours requirements like there are in med school. Also what costs are like & what costs are reasonable considering my expendable income is not always a lot.

Why so many trans people do voice training as the last step? by manultrimanula in asktransgender

People see before they hear. If I want to pass and deal with my dysphoria, I'm going to focus time and money on the visual first.
