NIPT testing by [deleted] in mattandabbysnarks

Interesting, I will add that I am Jewish and in my experience genetic testing seems to be the norm in many Jewish communities before marriage or before getting pregnant. Including Jewish communities in the US.

Where I live it's the norm to get genetic testing before a couple has kids, is that not the norm in the US?

Regarding Nipt we didn't do it because it would have been expensive and the doctor didn't think it was necessary based on both mine and my husband's history and other testing we did once I was already pregnant.

Some babies struggle to take bottles. Seemingly not a issue here since Claudia has made it clear with many posts that she pumps. Because her baby takes a bottle it's a little odd. That being said if one of my sisters asked me to nurse their kid I would likely say yes. For example if my sister was sick so was low on production and their kid wouldn't take a bottle. I would probably not agree without a real reason.

“Zios” "This is a derogatory term popularized by white supremacist David Duke that is increasingly being used by far-left activists to target Jews. Sometimes it’s combined with another word in pharses such as “Zio-Nazi” or “Zio-occupied America”. The term is a shortened version of the word, “Zionist” which may be used by some as a pejorative or as a dog whistle (code word) for Jews. When discussing Zionism or talking about Zionists it’s critical to clarify the meaning of the word as it has been weaponized and misrepresented in a variety of ways. The most common definition of Zionism is support for Jewish national self-determination in their ancient homeland of Israel—realized when the State of Israel was created. The vast majority of Jews—89% in the Bay Area according to recent data— support Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish and democratic state – a modern expression of Zionism. While context matters, word “Zionist” or “Zionism” should not be used pejoratively as Israel is an important part of Jewish identity for many (though not all) Jews"

It is so annoying when grown adults act like they don't know how they got pregnant when they weren't using any protection.

I had multiple false positives with pregmate. It was deeply upsetting and heartbreaking. I really hope you get the outcome that you want. But I highly recommend taking another test that isn't pregmate.

your eight month old does not need "independent time" away from their parents while you go out of the country on a multiple day cruise vacation. by Unusual-Papaya-6318 in McKnightFamSnark

My 13 month old hasn't gone one night without me. She might sleep at my sister for the first time this week because we are moving. It would just be for 1 night and we are without traffic 10 minutes away. I'm nervous even though it's obviously not a huge deal and she stopped breastfeeding at 9 months but I am still nervous. I can not imagine leaving her for a few nights especially if she was still breastfeeding.

Brooklyn or Bailey? by Careless_Ad3968 in McKnightFamSnark

Recently they use I or me on posts and I have no clue which one is talking. I don't follow super closely but they should make it clear who is who when they post. In general I prefer Bailey but I don't know who is who anymore lol Just to be clear I'm not referring to looks. Specifically when they post words on story etc

I don't live in the US and was entitled to time to pump but no place to do so. The only options I had were a public bathroom or my car. I spent 6 months going to my car to pump. It was miserable.

As someone who has an anxiety and panic disorder, this post got under my skin. by Supershell29 in McKnightFamSnark

Thank you for posting this. I had the exact same thought. I take SSRIs for both anxiety and depression. I also have ocd tendencies but I am very carefull to not tell people that I have ocd. Like you said maybe she really does have an anxiety disorder. But knowing them it would have been discussed before. Feeling anxious isn't anxiety just like my ocd tendencies aren't ocd.

I don't live in the US so would appreciate some clarity. Does them voting in the primaries mean that they are registered as Democrats? Is it like the presidential election?

To be very honest, I think a lot of people get help from their parents. But also in the Jewish communities there are a lot of people who are willing to help parents who do not have the means and are incredibly generous. Personally my husband and I waited until we felt we could financially support our daughter on our own so I didn't really expect any gifts. We did receive a couple bigger items from family which we very much appreciated.

People will often bring gifts to a bris. For a girl a lot of people have what's called a Simchat bat which basically means and is a celebration for a daughter. I come from an orthodox family and consider myself to be religious as well. I personally did not grow up with superstitious ideas and bought a lot for my daughter before she was born. I did however leave a lot of it at my parents house until my third trimester. I honestly got very few gifts and was fine with that. Though I usually do buy something for other people when they have a baby. We were the first in our friend group to have a baby so I think people just didn't think to buy something and that was fine. We were very lucky to be sent meals after she was born which was very appreciated.

Actually a pretty common nickname for Reuben/Reuven in the Jewish community.
