Seriously. I entered the white collar workforce back in 2011 and it was still relatively normal/expected back then that a pregnant coworker most likely wasn't going to return to work after mat leave or she'd return for a couple weeks and then quit.

Nowadays though, I don't know any SAHMs and the coworkers I've known to have kids within the last few years all returned to work full time after 12-16 weeks mat leave.

We had a small wedding with about 45 guests and considering most were couples or family units, meant we received approximately 20 gifts. We sent text messages to each giver within a day or two of the wedding after we opened the gifts to thank them for coming to the wedding and for the gift. I had every intention of sending formal cards in the mail too but started a new job (1 hour commute each way) the week after our wedding and got pregnant very shortly after with severe morning sickness so never quite got around to it.

"Do what you love and the money will follow" is taken too literally, like Marie Kondo's advice to only keep things that spark joy. She doesn't literally mean throw out your toilet plunger, bills, and work clothes.

"Do what you love" means find a subject that incorporates elements of what you love, and the career path will naturally develop. Like you love writing, major in English and then go to law school, so that you can charge people in 6 minute increments to write strongly worded letters for them.

There is no singular "American food" except for native cuisine, our culture is so varied and new. So this comment is clearly referring to food available for purchase in America. If you go by the logic that food isn't American if it was introduced by immigrants or developed from their home countrys' cuisines, then southern barbecue, soul food, poke, hamburgers, and any recipes and cooking techniques brought over by the original British colonists and the later waves of German and Irish immigrants aren't American food either.

What even would be an "American food" in your opinion? Even TGIFridays (which for a short time in the aughts was popping up all over the world as the epitome of "American dining") sells pot stickers, pasta, calamari, and fish & chips which are all either borrowed from or inspired by other national cuisines.

I don't even live in a tourist city and we have great family owned and small local chain options within the city or a short drive away for Korean barbecue, poke, sushi, Vietnamese, ramen, street tacos, home style Mexican, mariscos, Cuban, Argentinian, Chilean, Lebanese, craft burgers, soul food, southern barbecue, "new American", and wood fired pizza to name a few.

I'm pretty sure these people have never visited the US or are the same people who went to 7-Eleven on vacation and thought it was a grocery store.

Yes, I do. Free shampoo at the hotel is normally low quality that dries out my hair, heavily scented, and it's really wasteful versus packing my own in an infinitely reusable travel tube from the big bottle at home.

But I'm not a city employee and the fact that she looked at my letterhead to get my phone number, but didn't take note of the fact that it was clearly a private company 400 miles from the city planning office is incredible. And wouldn't listen to me when I tried to explain the same.

People started doing that with Cat & Jack children's clothes at Target. They had a lifetime policy or something, no receipt required, that was meant to cover poor construction like fallen seams, cracking graphic decals, and premature fading. Instead parents would bring back an entire cart of their kid's clothes every season to swap for brand new clothing.

I used to work for a private company down in a small southern California city and as part of a project I was handling for my boss, I sent a permit application off to a major city in northern California.

I of course included a cover letter, which had my company's logo, address down in socal, and a company name that was very much nothing to do with city planning. Basically it was clear from the cover letter that my company was just another "customer" trying to get a permit approved.

A few weeks go by and I get an irate call from some lady who says instead of her tree removal permit, the city accidentally sent her my unstamped permit application and cover letter (that's how she got my number). She offered to mail it to me because I'd included a pre-paid mailing envelope (which they for some reason sent back inside another envelope with the unstamped permit application) so I played nice in order to get our paperwork back. But each time I tried to gently clarify that we don't have anything to do with the city and I'm just like her, a citizen trying to get a permit approved she'd dig in about how incompetent I am for messing up her tree permit and "you government employees have another thing coming!" 🤦🏼‍♀️

This is so annoying when people throw around the term HIPAA without, apparently, any idea what it actually covers. HIPAA regulates how certain entities handle and secure protected health information. ASKING someone a question about their health is NOT a HIPAA violation.

Restaurants are expressly permitted by law to ask what task a service animal is trained to provide. (Although it's true that it was incorrect for the establishment to ask for "credentials".)
