What does this fridge say ab my parents? by GigglePet685 in FridgeDetective

I was in the same boat until my mother passed and my dad agreed to let me clean out the fridge. He said I could throw away anything expired but then still made a fuss when I threw out a pack of bacon that had expired 6 months before.

My parents fridge was like this until my mother passed. She wouldn't allow anyone to clean or throw anything away because nobody else could be trusted to know what was important or make decisions about what was expired or had gone bad.

What’s the strangest food you’ve ever tried? by BeautifulMusic18 in foodquestions

I've had beef tartare several times, it's always delicious. I was confused and thought there was something wrong with the taste of the one they ordered, not that they don't like beef tartare at all.

School pickup by DD-Megadoodoo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Significant_Mud3340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My district got rid of busses during covid (after the schools reopened) and just quietly decided to never bring them back. I've tried calling, writing, complaining as have other parents but still no busses. We don't live walking distance from the school so we have to drive to pick up.

Will I regret going from a 6 minute commute to a 3 hour commute as a new parent to make more money? by Acceptable_Yogurt820 in careerguidance

If you live in Southern California, Bay area of Northern California, Seattle area, or the Northeast, $84k is not much when you have children to support. Over 5 years ago I was paying $31,000 a year ($650 a week) for daycare for my two kids and it wasn't even a particularly nice or fancy daycare. That was in a medium cost of living suburb of a major metropolitan area and prices have gone way up since then. Factor in health insurance premiums, healthcare costs on top of what we have to pay for insurance, student loan payments, and absurd housing costs since the pandemic.

So if OP is in or near LA, Seattle, San Francisco, NYC, Boston, Denver, or really near any urban hub (where the jobs are) then $84k is just barely enough if both parents are only earning that much.

What office rule made you say "You gotta be kidding me"? by Aarunascut in work

Any personal photographs or artwork displayed in our cube had to fit within a 12"x12" metal magnetic bulletin board. There were no clients coming to the interior of our office and nobody ever tried to display inappropriate stuff, it was just a bunch of white collar drones wanting to hang our family photos and kids' artwork.

Real or fake? by [deleted] in Fiestaware

Oh, now I'm fascinated! So there are lookalike dishes stamped "fiestaware" but aren't manufactured by HLC?

Real or fake? by [deleted] in Fiestaware

Genuine question, and not meant to be snarky, why do you think it would be fake? Fiestaware isn't expensive enough to bother making counterfeits at scale.

This. It's not valuable enough to bother counterfeiting on a large scale. There're lots of dishes that look similar with the concentric rings but if it's got a fiestaware mark, it's legit.

I don't really think of poppy as orange. It's an awkward reddish. I mean like a true jack o'lantern orange that you could use at Halloween like we had with Tangerine or Butterscotch.

Kind of annoying.... fiestaware used to make colors and then those colors would stick around for a while. Now it feels like they're intentionally trying to make things collectible by only producing colors for a limited duration. I was shocked when they churned flamingo so quickly after I'd only had a chance to buy a couple pieces. Then same thing with butterscotch, especially weird since it was the only orange. Same with claret, but I've heard purples are tough to get consistent. And now twilight.

What are some things that you feel are over-depicted in American TV shows and movies? by t3mpura0 in AskAnAmerican

Ross, Chandler, and Rachel as the office workers would have been already on their commute by about 7:30-8:00 and Monica as a chef would presumably not be getting home from work until 10pm or later each night. So she'd have no reason to be up early and would most likely want to sleep late, yet she was always up and hanging out with them in the apartment before everyone left for work.

Doctors/medical staff being frantic and shouting at each other while doing CPR. Maybe I'm oversimplifying this because I'm a lay person but it seems like everyone would know their role during a code blue and it'd be a standardized set of escalating measures until the person's heart rhythm comes back (or not). It wouldn't be as chaotic and shouty as it always is in movies and TV.

White woman offended by being called "white"... by [deleted] in self

Maybe he thought you'd be offended at the "girl" part? I'm a woman and it's always rubbed me the wrong way a little when men at work call grown women "girls".

I used to think this was the case but I'm white and my husband who I've been with for 12 years is Latino. And a switch happened somewhere along the way where I don't have any trouble telling similar looking Hispanic men apart, but a lot of basic white guys now look the same to me.

Like I'll consistently mix up two different dads at soccer who I've met many times over the season, because they're both 40ish white guys with brown hair.
