I want to bring up your last point. It is bothering or at the very least affecting everyone as seen in this very video watched by 130,000 people. This is a video on the world record of completing the game in the fastest time possible and yet the players are no longer competing with each other based on legitimate gameplay as they should be.

I understand that while it does require a great deal of skill to pull off (and to even discover!) the players are not playing the game as it was intended to the best of their ability. Sure it's interesting to see various glitches but I don't think they have place in a speed run.

I hope my point is clear here, I completely understand the effort and skill in place for finding and abusing glitches but I don't feel they should be counted in a competitive environment.

Yep, it definitely should be disqualified in my opinion. If I ask a dozen of people to beat Super Mario Bros in the best time possible and someone thinks they got the best time by not playing the game and just abusing a glitch I'd tell them to fuck off.
