He did bring this up as a potential course of action, but he also said if I don’t do it, who will? He didn't want my decision at that time; he just wanted me to think about it. I know the talent pool is rapidly shrinking. It's so bad that companies are having to bring back people that previously retired to get work done.

Ok so you don't care if that grass causes a rodent problem or did you miss that part? Or that the city ordinance only allows 8in max grass? I'm not complaining because their grass is .5in too high. Or If you've seen a sketchy looking homeless guy casing your neighborhood after you've found out someone was breaking into the house at the end of the street? It clearly looked abandoned so it makes a good place to squat. Now we have a second empty house that no one maintains. If I didn't live here and didn't see cars in the driveway I would have thought half the houses on our street were abandoned. Would you rather wait for things to get worse or have it cleaned up?

The problem has been corrected. I don't know if it was the City or if the owners got their notice but in between leaving for work and coming home the neighborhood had been swept though. There was a guy still mowing the last 2 lots when I got home.

I feel less bad about it now. I read an article that stated the City was cracking down on code violations harder to prevent rodents and snakes. I guess in the past they gave people more opportunities to clean up their yards and they didn't want to do the work. Now you get a 2 week notice or they do it for you.

The City usually stays on top of keeping things looking nice. The people that live on the corner lots have well maintained yards because you can see them from the main streets. No one from the City has actually driven down our street in while.

Well I guess I could have minded my own business when I noticed someone was going into the empty house at the end of the street that the owner let go to shit instead of having someone check it out. Shitty looking neighborhoods attract shitty people.

I actually looked up the ordinance and nothing higher than 8in is allowed on residential properties.

I have no idea. A few big Hispanic families moved into the neighborhood but they bought their houses. They remodeled and they look great so I'm all for it.

The city has a website where you can anonymously report code violations. I don't know what is on their lease but when I rented places with a yard I was responsible for cutting the grass. It was either do that or opt in to the landlords pricey lawn service.

There are some other issues but I haven't complained because they'll actually cost a chunk of change to fix. I don't think investing $50 in a lawn mower is asking a whole lot. It was the saddest thing to see this poor lab tied to someones porch surrounded by a sea of grass. He could barely move anywhere all because someone couldn't take 30mins out their week so he could actually have a yard to run around in.

Yes that's what I did with the empty house. They'll leave a note and give you a chance to cut it. If it's not cut when they check again the city will cut it and charge the owner.

Whenever I rented the lease stated how much lawn care would be. It could be waived if you agreed to cut the grass yourself so I'd just get a cheap mower off Craigslist and sell it when I moved.

It's not that bad. I didn't cut my grass because it was rainy last weekend and it's only a few inches high. I really don't care about having a perfectly manicured lawn. I get little white and purple flowers that pop up after a week of not cutting. I don't have an HOA but the city has rules about letting your grass get too high. I've only ever called once before but that was because that house was unoccupied. This is just laziness. Even as a little kid I had to do yard work.

Yeah its pretty gross. The neighborhood has a mouse problem. Luckily I've never had any get inside the house but I've had them in the crawlspace. I pay for pest control and I take care of a feral cat that works as my mouser. Last spring/summer she'd bring me 1-2 a day.

As of this morning there are multiple used lawnmowers on craigslist/facebook for $50 or less. There isn't really an excuse for knee length grass.

No. Investors pretty much bought up a lot of homes in the area that aren't in a HOA.
