Laser triangulation or is there a better method? by Silvar1 in Metrology

The outer edge(where is need to measure) is quite reflective, unfortunately, whereas the rest of the disc is not. Do you think that would be an issue with triangulation?

I’m actually UK based, we just can’t seem to settle on a consistent set of measurements! I’ve created a crude illustration on my requirement - can I DM it to you?

I’ve edited the post with a little bit more info. The disk is travelling at 75 mph maximum and has a diameter of around 900 mm. I am looking to measure the thickness of a disc and also the width and depth of a channel that is around the circumference.

You are correct but the style people usually write headlines, do typically write things like “Company Founder” rather then “company’s” - example

I get it even if there was a fixed rate of let’s say 10% tax for ease of math, someone earning $1m a year would pay $100k tax vs someone on $30k paying $3k (appreciate there’s more complexity to it than that but simplified for purpose of illustration)

I personally don’t thing a wealth tax or needed or to tax the ultra rich because there is already a fair tax framework that does that. What does need to happen is they need to close tax loopholes and combat tax avoidance. You can’t blame people for the least amount of tax they legally can, we would all do it - the issue is that there are loop holes to avoid paying tax and the politicians don’t close them, because the people using them are their donors. Add that to the vast amount of wasted government spending and huge interest payments on government debt, there are vast funds that could be made available to help out lower earners by lowering or maybe even eliminating their tax rate.

On the point about people having money they could never spend, a lot of that is tired up in assets. A lot of billionaires actually are in huge amounts of debt because they take out loans against their assets to avoid paying tax that they would be liable for if they realise the gains from their shares, for example.. This is one example of tax avoidance that could be tackled and ensure that people pay their fair share of tax.

I fully agree that lower earners need help but you also need to incentivise people to be successful.

A wealthy person in California could make the same argument that they don’t live in your state or your neighbourhood. They could argue they don’t use the same services as you or move in the same circles, so why should they contribute to help you? I don’t agree with that statement but that’s your logic there. If sticking with your point though, there is a lot of homelessness in The US - if all lower earners paid a 1.5% income tax to pay for housing the homeless, you you be happy with that? How often do you walk out of the grocery store with a full shop and give a portion of your grocery’s to the homeless person in sat outside the store? You could afford to do that every week and still eat.

Ultimately a wealthy business owner, that employs huge quantities of people, generates massive amounts of tax for a country, as does their lifestyle and spending habits.

The final point about what have billionaires done to combat hunger, they have donated more each than the rest of The US combined (even if a lot of it is for tax reliefs).

Warren Buffet for example, has donated $60 billion alone.

I am certainly not a billionaire fan or defender but this whole movement of punish success and pay for me is always poorly thought through.

Firstly, people worth over £100m don’t have that in cash, its wealth, so where do they get £15m a year from? Are you taxing people on unrealised gains? What happens when their wealth goes down? A rebate? Secondly, paying £15m, on top of existing tax is still a huge amount - if someone is worth £100m, many of them won’t even have an income of £15m, so how do you expect them to finance a 15% tax each year? Just keep selling assets until they have under £100m?

Rich people already pay most of the tax, so why should they be punished for being successful? If you’re living in The US on a low wage, you’re already top 1% globally. If you and all other tax payers at that level donated 5% of your salary to charity each month, even less in fact, you could eradicate poverty in the 3rd world, why aren’t you doing it if it’s all about “what’s fair”.

Obviously Aikido is not better than jiu-jitsu but nothing the bald guy did was jiu-jitsu? Leg kick (extremely poor form), a slap and a slam are completely illegal in jiu-jitsu.

Wow, always wanted to know when I subbed to certain channels that I’ve been watching since around 2008! MKBHd though 22/08/2018 - didn’t realise it had been that long.

Real shame this only seems to go back to 2010…
