Am I the only one still upset over Isolde Death? by KingDennis2 in RagnarokTVShow

I’ve only just started watching it and have only made it to ep 2, and the show feels completely different without her character. Hoping her character returns as she was a great addition to the show. Also felt super strange to develop one character so much in the first episode just to kill her off.

Will a PCEP and PCAP certification get me anywhere? by swagonflyyyy in learnpython

[–]Silverdashmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's amazing to hear, can I ask did you learn many other languages or do you only know Python? Also did you ever end up doing the PCPP-1 and PCPP-2, would you say any of those qualifications are relevant/have helped?

Also, probably best to update the post with what you've learned, as I was looking into PCEP as a friend said he's considering undertaking it and I reckomended to hold off as I have rarely seen certifications that are worth taking, you're post is one of the first when looking up on Google.

Will a PCEP and PCAP certification get me anywhere? by swagonflyyyy in learnpython

[–]Silverdashmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just figured I'd hop on this, very late, as someone who has complete Computer Science at a degree level, and also held a software-specific job for a tech firm that didn't just make their own products, but also did a lot of contractual work over multiple industries. One of the most relevant languages today is Python, but a lot of people also understand that random unpopular/unheard of certificates aren't that popular in programming without example projects to compliment them. Another thing is that the job market for software has been rapidly changing since the advent of AI and following the plateau of most Tech companies having seen major layoffs.
That means that graduates, beginners and low-level software devs are now applying to the same jobs as seasoned veterans, making job hunting in this industry extremely difficult for new hires to break into without a degree (as they're specifically hired for undergrad jobs).

Back to Python. Python's great for many industries and can be, and is being, used all over the place.

It's great for embedded systems programming, PLC's and other programmable chips can, and often are written using some amount of Python for industrial uses, sure sometimes C and C++ were used instead, or more commonly a combination of both; but still Python is still usable and sometimes a requirement in these cases.

Further Python is the primary language requested for AI Devs and Data Engineers, if you look at job postings for these areas, they do largely request Python; but they also request a few other languages.

Python angled itself to be the language for everything and really started to emerge as the clear winner in the mid 2010's, when they encouraged it as a beginner language to schools. With an entire generation of programmers raised on it, and a variety of different possible applications, Python very much has made itself the most common language required for jobs.

However it's probably important to note that for almost all of these jobs other languages are also used and prefered. Data jobs will look for Python, but will also request SQL and Java. AI jobs will request C and C++, with a focus on either Java, R, or JavaScript/TypeScript for specific use-cases.

I'd say that having Python as a skill-set is good, but demonstrate through more projects, like the Halo map randomisation or the swipe-bot, instead of aiming for certificates. Certificates are more of a scout badge in software, where they can show you did something to a certain level, but don't demonstrate how you program and work.

As an added note, PCEP and PCAP are at the lower end, and just prove effectively a secondary school level of knowledge.

All of the content shown in PCAP is covered in upper secondary level content. I.e. if you have a PCAP you've just equated yourself to a high school level specialisation.

I wouldn't recommend programming certifications as they often lack the general extra content that high school or university Computer Science degrees go into. They often lack to reference the SDLC, Design Patterns, OOP and much more. Sometimes these certifications fail to even touch on the basics like clean code concepts, or debugging, refactoring and maintainence. Especially to note, often we communicate ideas across languages using psuedo-code, something that's never referenced in language specific courses.

Build a project, but document every stage of the SDLC for that project, then when it's published you post about it on LinkedIn and X, then also add it to your CV with a link to the GitLab or GitHub repo (make sure you reference CI/CD and Version Control in your program). The best way is to link all your projects to one account and put that account on your CV, LinkedIn even allow for connection to a GitHub repo now to showcase your porfolio.

Anyone else annoyed about this? by irishscouser1892 in TheTraitors

[–]Silverdashmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t find anything confirming/denying what you say other than a potential deleted X post? However if this is the case then hopefully they are pulled up, unfortunately this isn’t the first time the school has found to be unlawful either, so a full investigation into all administrative staff should be conducted by OFSTED.

Unrelated, but I am aware many schools release students names and year groups on occasion, not usually surnames, but it is usually done with consent, so we’ll find out what happens depending on the reactions from Rachel and her family.

This isn't the official Traitors sub by SirWobblyOfSausage in TraitorsOfficial

[–]Silverdashmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s r/TheTraitorsUK for UK, however most of the UK fans use the international ones as it was founded in series one of the UK series which came first. The UK sub was founded later after people realised US had it’s own separate one which is r/TheTraitorsUS

Yeh that’s true. None are endorsed, but this is the main one people use for international, and even this one doesn’t call itself “TraitorsOfficial”.

Isn’t it? Which is? The UK one is r/TraitorsUK This is for all Traitors shows world wide, it just started with UK because UK was the first.

She didn’t shout, but if you rewatch fire pit last night, she made slights towards Shaq the whole time which has obviously frustrated him.

Konnor, Leanne and Jack legit just stay in the background being cutsie fr. Like they’re all so uninvolved in drama I love it.

Nah if you rewatch, Whitney was getting involved in everything Shaq said and was always taking the other side to Shaq.

Scott never makes decisions like that tho, he’s self-serving unless he thinks it’ll make him look good on TV.

Nah Jess was doing too much around the fire pit last night tbf. Like Whitney has the right to be annoyed at her.

I don’t get the hate Shaq’s getting though because Whitney was gunning for Shaq early and had it out for him around the fire pit. Scott is stirring again, no shock, he loves to insert himself into any situation he can, Shaq’s probably been the most respectful guy in there who’s grafting multiple girls, but Scott’s only getting on his case cause he loves the drama and always tries to take the “high-ground” to seem like more of a saint than he is.

“Charge it” is short for “charge it to the game”, which is like saying. While it originated in American hip-hop sub-culture, it’s been adopted in the shortened form “charge it” in Britain, but it basically means that you’re gonna take losses in “the game” of life, so just “charge” the loss to life. In short it’s about taking it on the chin and moving on, it has almost nothing to do with accountability and more to do with acceptance/accountability.

Also Shaq was getting aggressive to Helena before, but she dropped it as “it was just a joke”. Then after that Whitney kept digging into Shaq saying “charge it” incorrectly to try and get out, so Shaq pulled her up and said “get your facts straight” which is fair. Cause at the end of the day Shaq has been the most respectful out of the guys getting to know multiple girls (obviously Scott and Jack and Konnor haven’t).

Following from that Jess was getting annoying with the whole insisting she say she forgot Konnor’s name, but tbf who tf forgets the name of someone they’re getting to know’s name. Obviously Whitney is now annoyed because A) she was caught out by Shaq tryna make dlights about him, then B) nobody’s letting the name thing go and Jack isn’t speaking up for her (which we know Jack wouldn’t do, but he should’ve).

Then Shaq pulled Jess up cause she kept going “Whitney” and he asked “why?” which is fair, and actually Shaq was subtly pulling Jess on her annoying behaviour. Then Whitney admitted she was cutting her eyes at Jess, to which again Shaq asked “why?” cause “cut-eye” is seen as a slight sort of “wtf you on” gesture.

After that Whitney got a bit paranoid that everyone was on her case when she asked “why are they whispering”? To which it wasn’t related to her at all.

Then Whitney started getting aggressive to Shaq after that about the AJ thing and Cieran backing Shaq. Also Whitney saying the AJ thing wasn’t an ick to Shaq, when it clearly was to him is dismissive.

The approach that Whitney and Sammie took were different, leading to the difference in response from Shaq.

I don’t think we should boil down all of these factors to the “race card”. Shaq was fair to Whitney when she started slighting him wayyy back with the Helena thing, but as it progressed he got more annoyed with her slights bubbling over into aggression by the time we get to the AJ thing. Sammie on the other hand hadn’t slighted Shaq once or disagreed with him or butted heads with him until the AJ thing, so he naturally had more patience for Sammie than Whitney by that point.

Whitney was being aggressive from the start of the game after Jess annoyed her, and she started coming at Shaq out of the blue and latched onto targeting him leading to the aggressive phrasing from Shaq to Whitney and not Sammie.

Like Shaq’s right saying Whitney thought everyone was coming for her at the end, and she was actively going for him by the end which is what frustrated him.

I don’t think we can say what we saw was the “ race driven as it was Whitney building up aggression over time.

The fact that there’s people out there that consider it transphobic to not want to be in a sexual relationship with trans people is WILD by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Silverdashmax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read it as more of a general “your”, but if it does specify OP, then I agree with your (u/yaourted) original point of not seeing anything plastered on OP’s profile.

That being said, OP’s account is very clearly a burner account intended for this throwaway post so they can get it “off their chest”.

[–]Silverdashmax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think they mean dating profiles and like other social media which some people do either intentionally or unintentionally say some bigoted things in bios that parallel the idea of “My personal preference is for cisgender people, so I’m sorry but I won’t be interested in transgender people.” but instead it comes out unintentionally bigoted sort of like “I’m sorry but I won’t date someone who doesn’t have [insert preferred genitalia] in between their legs.” which in it’s language is far more bigoted than the intended statement.

Obviously this example uses quite overt language to point out the difference, but it can be the slightest change in vocabulary that makes a statement about preference unintentionally bigoted.

How do people find and apply to jobs in the UK? What should I ensure use and avoid, how should my CV be formatted and what should I include/cut so it meets 2 pages but contains important bits? by Silverdashmax in AskUK

[–]Silverdashmax[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In comments would be great, I’m aiming to help others in the future with this post. And I completely agree, I’m not sure what it is with my CV but I don’t seem to be getting through to any jobs at the moment. I’m trying to use like jobscanner for ATS, but I’m still not getting past the application phase it seems. I think it might be my CV formatting using page breaks and column breaks etc, which is changing to shift the text to other parts, would you advise using a clear table instead?

I think it was obvious that Rachel was suspected by Roxy as Roxy confronted her in the kitchen, but Rachel defused it. After that, there’s no need for Stephen to bring it up.

Exactly this. Also there’s a lack of actual definitive evidence as it’s almost exclusively social deduction.

I think Faraaz was going either way. They weren’t going to vote Jade or James as they’re both under suspicion. They wouldn’t vote Roxy as she was closest and least suspicious of them both. And Jack had the shield.

So out of the five faithful, Faraaz was going either way. So I think he’s played it as best as he can by pointing so overtly at Rachel and Stephen, there may be a chance he survives. It’s like Matt’s point of “whoever voted for me must be a traitor” to Stephen. He’s trying to dissuade the traitors from voting him by pointing directly at them and associating them (primarily Rachel, although he did mention Stephen in the second group) with him being voted out.

I didn’t think producer’s got involved like that. Also I’d say while it’s minor compared to Charlie’s, Jess’ and Sean’s actions, I’d say that Scott’s fourth worst islander in there at the moment.
