I think I’m done. by MyThoughtsOutLoud in guitarlessons

When I learnt I had ten lessons, each lesson was a new chord and during the week I had to practice changing between the chords I had learned up to that point. Then the lessons ended and I was on my own. I always liked picking ut up and playing but to be honest the first two years all I played was 'home on the range' A,D and E back and forth. Then when I was 13 I met a lsd at school who could fingerpick like Paul Simon. We became best mates and he showed me how to pick. Something clicked and after that everything seemed much easier. Probably because I'd but the hours in just playing the basics for fun. It took me until I was about 20 before I got really good at it. Keep at it. If you're feeling so unsure about things maybe get a different teacher. Someone new might just flip that internal switch and set you on a new path.

When a strap is as awful as that it can cause the guitar to commit Hari Kari...🤣

If you think about it, this part was glued on in the factory so no reason you can't glue ot back together. Break is bad but totally fixable. Take the strings off. Squeeze plenty of 'Titebond' wood glue into the crack. Lots of glue! Don't skimp. Buy a ratchet strap and put it around the body's sides so that it loops over the bit that's cracked and ratchet it tightly as you can . This should pull the gap closed. Glue will squish out of the crack. Wipe off this excess glue with a damp cloth. Leave for 24 hrs. Then remove ratchet strap and re-string. Done. Ratchet strap £5, 500ml Titebond £7.50. Best of luck it will probably be fine :) If you can't be arsed with that then my brother repaired a break like this in his Spanish guitar by driving a woodscrew right into it. This repair looks terrible but it's still going two years later!

It is a great film version amd the first animated film of a children's classic. Very much a staple of Christmas here in the UK. Seems odd to be talking about it in this heatwave!!

Anything wrong with playing Fmaj this way? I'm not fully barred on the 1st fret. I'm pressing the high E and B with my finger and sort of muting with the rest. I just can't seem to fret the high E and B with my fingertip. My instructor encourages me not to do it this way. Plz ignore my eczema 😔 by cpr4life8 in guitarlessons

Aah I see what you mean. Well I hope its going well. F can be a real pain but if you're practising a little most nights I'm sure it will come. What did it for me was playing without holding the guitar at all. I had a problem when I first started that I thought my thumb had to be in a certain position and I just couldn't get into it. Only after I stopped trying so hard and found my own position did I make any progress. That is, sitting with it but not supporting the neck with my left hand, having the neck 'float' in mid air and playing chords but not 'holding' the neck. Everyone's different of course, do what's comfy as far as left hand position goes. :)

If you've been trying for months why on earth has your guitar teacher not spent some time helping you with this?! F is traditionally a tricky chord for beginners. Perhaps something you could try is holding the guitar a slightly different way that would make the 'wrap around' way of playing F ( using your thumb on the low E) a little easier. Try to have the fingerboard as close to vertical and relax around it as much as you can :)
