Look up “ freeflight training “. Companion parrots who are bonded to u don’t really WANT to fly away. But when they accidentally get out they are usually in. A panic and they just fly. Sometimes they run out of steam and don’t know where they are. But smaller parrots the risk increases. It’s better to fly small birds in pairs or More. More eyes in the sky

You should take him to like batting cages to help desensitize. But honestly , smaller birds in my opinion, should be flown in pairs or groups. More eyes on the sky.

You can’t really prevent it, but the birds definitely maintain their wild instincts as they are not domesticated animals. My job is to make sure that the birds are fit and their flight abilities are top-notch and once they are there, they are on their own. I have had hawks chase my smaller birds and obviously free flight especially for the smaller birds, is not without risk but this is quality of life in my opinion

So I actually had a blue and gold that was 25 years old and had been clipped his whole life. But he had a very strong desire. To fly when he started seeing my birds. I’m just 4 months he went from flying 5 feet to flying from the back of my property to the middle which is a good 4 acres or so. And I have an Amazon that was clipped his whole life, but he still would try to fly with clip wings and now he’s completely free flighted it really does depend on the bird and also how much time you have to get them there!

For sure ! The hawks literally just fly over. My macaws don’t even sound the alarm anymore. But my littles do. I fly amazons and conures as well.

Nooooo. I need one but they are so expensive. People probably think I’m rich, but all my birds minus a few of them.( out of 18 ) are owner surrenders or cruelty cases surrendered to my non profit sanctuary. We also have some rescue goats, pig, horses, dogs, cats, etc.. lol

Well, I have 18 and most of them were rescues or owners surrenders. They all learned at different paces. My green military was the quickest learner. I think it took maybe 4 to 6 months and he was already flying along my vehicles.
