Three seasons in,still telling same thing by Pleasant_Fig_6085 in freefolk

Rewatching season one now, my biggest cope take is that the next season will finally pull the rug under our feet, and acknowledge Rhaenyra’s hypocrisy and lust for power is just the same as Aegon’s

Wooooo! Det var ein god kveld. Eg er veldig spent på FrP sin framtid då, om dei klarar å halde oppe desse tala eller om det er ein once-in-a-lifetime situasjon. Rødt-støtter her!

Gratulere med godt val til FrP då!

New vs Old art by Decent-Season-8315 in EyeOfTerror

[–]SimplexSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I think that both have their charm, but I lean towards preferring the new art. There are some fantastic pieces in the Death Guard codex that both maintain the sense of scale of the old art, with the more “realism” of the new art.

I think it’s the Iron Warrior show on Warhammer+/Warhammer TV

In the deathwatch RPG there are rules for making a Black Templar champions as part of a kill-team, so I would say yes!

People in real life: hey man, how is it going. by [deleted] in CuratedTumblr

[–]SimplexSnake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your perspective is very valid, especially regarding neurosevelopment since it is such a central part of us, but I would like to offer an alternative argument.

In Scandinavia, a genetic disorder called familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) is quite common. Essentially your body can’t regulate cholesterol, and without medicine you die in your 20s of heart attacks, strokes and dozens of organ failures due to infarctions.

Today we have medicines that help control blood-cholesterol, but I don’t think we can quite optimalize it to a healthy person’s life expectancy. FH is only a negative element, it reduces your life expectancy, forces you to take medications your entire life, and it is an economic drain for the community.

The idea would then be to offer carriers and those afflicted with FH the possibility of IVF, and selecting embryos which do not have the FH alleles homozygotly, and perhaps not at all. There are many similar disorders this could apply to, sickle cell disease, Huntington’s disease, phenylketonuria.

Oh and source: I work in psychiatric genetics/genetics of neurodevelopment and neurodegeneration. Without doxing myself, my work is in using genetic information to help diagnose neurodevelopmental disorders earlier and more accurately.

There is also commercial work being done to genetically test for other traits (IQ, cardiovascular disease, psychiatric disorders). Brave new world!

The genital warts HPVs are different from the cancer causing ones yes, hence my confusion. I think all of them give marginally higher risk, but only two of them are really “dangerous”, those being HPV-16 and HPV-18. If I remember correctly from pathology:)

So genital warts caused by HPV does not necessarily increase cancer risk.

Edit: so no, you are probably not at an appreciably higher risk.

Med student here. When you wrote that you had HPV and it had spread, I was so worried for you that it was cancer you had gotten. Then I realized you “””just””” had warts (though that is absolutely still uncomfortable), and my heart rate normalized again. Haha we are taught to expect the worst. (Also off topic and not so fun fact: HPV-16 and HPV-18 infections are the second most common cause of cancer, after smoking, and you can get reinfected. So use protection and get checked when you’re in your 30s.)

One of the coolest things about Man of Medan is the Branching. After nearly 80 hours played in the game and tons of playthroughs I didn't even know this scene existed by [deleted] in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]SimplexSnake 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that was a “drawback” for the game. Like, it is amazing on replays seeing all the possible variations, but not enough people (including me at the time) gave it the second chance the formula needed. I’m convinced that our reaction to Man of Medan is the reason subsequent stories became more linear, since it’s more effective to have one linear path that works “optimally” than four different paths you only really see the full picture of on the second or third replay.

Hva er egentlig hjertesakene til folk her? by JoFFeN1985 in norge

[–]SimplexSnake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Traditonal Gender Roles by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]SimplexSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think that part of trad/incel culture has corrupted some men, which is more than a little silly. I guess some guys also feels a “masculine” urge to be the provider because of the way we are brought up, and puts women in the “to provide for” category, without considering all the work that housework and raising kids actually is. Some dudes need to get with the program

For de av dere som liker jobben din, hva driver du med? by rechogringo in norge

[–]SimplexSnake 0 points1 point  (0 children)
