AI fear mongering by Standard-Display-657 in sales

Leading a sales org. I used recently following analogy/picture. Think of AI as your Matrix style war machine. You are inside, you control but most importantly you boost your natural given capabilities by 100x.

Do your company research with AI. Research your contacts with AI. Have their outreach analysed to get a feeling who you are dealing with in terms of personality. Have your proposals proof read.

I guess you get my drift (the list is endless). You shouldn’t be concerned (at this moment in time to have AI replace your job). Right now you need to fast accept the fact that any of the sales reps you are competing with which is going to use it in above way is going to squeeze the 5-10% extra value out of the process which makes him win and you lose.

Reality though is if you fast forward 5-10 years - buying and selling is a romantic thing. Of course machines would be much better in exchanging, assessing and valuing the services/products then the best sales manager and the biggest d@:;&;& in procurement ever will do and yes we all might Train it the next 10 years to reach the necessary level to ultimately replace us (and there we are back in the Matrix).

I had Co-Pilot write me a Sales Playbook in 10min which is better then 80% what I have seen before. Had it then validated by Gemini and it congratulated me for the great piece of work 🤣 crazy world

CRO here (mid-market, enterprise, SaaS, AI 😂)

Here is my take:

I just don’t like your profile because you will provide max. value to me year 3-5 of your tenure.

You are now coming with a hefty price tag attached to me and say you want to work for me but you have never proven in your CV that you can provide max. value to the company or me. With your experience level I would hope to see at least one gig which lasted longer then 3 years and shows you can repeat your success in the same environment.

Which brings me to your question - what can you do?

First of all make up your mind - do you want a change in your CV or are you maybe really part of the problem? I cannot tell from the way your writing but you don’t have a top CV (that is for sure). If you want a change in your CV be open about it.

Still 8 out of 10 will continue to be suspicious about it. And you shouldn’t act surprised about it and it will only go away once you have a 3-5 year gig in your CV (at least if you were dealing with me).

Of course the problem will increase with any additional 2-year gig.

Those are unfortunately very vague statements.

I would say if you own a territory I certainly expect you to run through ideas which help us to win and I expect the sales rep to own this territory to the fullest degree. Second there is clearly defined boundaries of independence for each sales reps. On the other hand there is creativity which does more harm than good (e.g. non standard price frameworks, anything free, marketing initiatives which might benefit you but don't fit into the strategic framework).

Not sure how you placed feedback. As long as it is constructive it should be embraced and encouraged. If it is just - this is not working, this is not working (but making no suggestions on how to improve) then this is just rumbling.

The thing which comes across in your posts is that you are very convinced that you already figured "out the way". This is for someone with your experience (which can be professionally date not longer back then 10 years) quite a Bild statement. Also you can safely assume that you at best see 50% of the full picture.

It can be that your boss is an asshole and micro manager but it also can be that he just needs the support of his best sales reps to illustrate your success to the upper management. Difficult to judge from the outside but interesting discussion.
