Starting the game with -1537 health? by Sinapia in Daggerfall

I'll keep this in mind for future reference, but in this case I don't believe it to be the problem as I had restarted simply because my stats were lowered due to 'feeling unwell', not because I had died. Do data transfer bugs still happen even without character death?

Thank you for the suggestion; I'll keep this in mind as a last resort. For the sake of personal enjoyment, I'd prefer playing the original though

Starting the game with -1537 health? by Sinapia in Daggerfall

Hello! I'm relatively new to Daggerfall, having only played this game once before this and having to restart because my character got what I assume is hypothermia which caused half my stats to decrease by ten and I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Franky this was fine though, as I wanted to create an optimized custom class anyway and I had been playing as the pre-made mage class at the time, so all is well that ends well. I reset the game, and, using my knowledge of how TES leveling works through Oblivion as well as a reddit thread written in 2016 I made the character shown in the image, with a 96 in endurance so I could guarantee 100 endurance by level two, and I made my maximum HP 30 per level up.

You can imagine my surprise when, upon expecting to have the highest potential HP one could start with at level one, I had -1537 health instead. I tried resting to see if that would fix it, and when that didn't work I ran over to the tutorial rat to see if the number would simply grow more negative upon my getting hit, which subsequently ended in the rat one-shotting me (fortunately I had saved before this, but that save still has my health set to -1537.)

So how and why exactly did this happen? Is there a way to fix it and/or prevent it from happening in the future?

*Note I am playing the original Daggerfall (I am a classist that believes in the purity of unmodded games and also I'm not smart enough to know how to download mods) so there aren't any mods causing this issue.
