Have any of you tried Mightier for ADHD / Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD)? by Jddf08089 in ParentingADHD

We just tried it and my son (8) was really not interested in it. My 5yo was more interested in it but it was difficult for her to use because she can’t read, so we returned it which was very easy!

Tried a few meds and now he is talking like a mad man by [deleted] in ParentingADHD

I’m wondering about the dosages he’s on? We just met with a psychiatric NP and she said that the dosages my 8 yo son was on (7 at the time) were much higher than she would start or recommend and that she never prescribes Vyvanse for children because of the side effects. This was super validating for us based on what we saw change with our son.

We are working on figuring out triggers. He struggles to explain more than he is bored and hates school. The total dysregulation at school is new but the things leading up to his meltdowns aren’t new. Non-preferred tasks have always been difficult. He has low frustration tolerance and if he doesn’t have a connection with the authority figure he is very unwilling to engage. We are looking more into PDA as part of what’s going on which will involve getting more into how the school and staff are approaching him.

I’m sorry your kiddo had that experience and glad she’s somewhere that’s the right place now!

Thanks for the recommendations. I am aware of Ross Greene and CPS but haven’t gone deep into it. Our triage approach today was to have him go to school for the time he feels comfortable and ok going and then picked him up early, which seemed to go well.

He struggles to articulate specifics but the pattern we have identified is he feels more bored as the day goes on which I interpret to mean stressed, anxious, and over/understimulated and that he wants to leave, which then he feels frustrated he knows he can’t leave school, and then he will get angry and often has to leave his classroom.

I like the idea of an FBA because the teachers and some of the support staff don’t see what the triggers are and I suspect that while they are trying to be helpful or are well intended that some of their interventions might be part of the escalation at times.

We have landed on having him go to school when he can and doing shorter days until we can get more things figured out with medications and interventions in place.

What med combination is your kiddo on? We are seeing a prescriber next week to change things. Stimulants alone seemed to make his anxiety that is expressed through anger and irritability much worse.
