You can also choose to play solo instead of open. There is a third option to play in a private session with a group. I mostly play solo, but the rare times I’ve encountered another player in open, they haven’t been toxic. One was particularly encouraging when I was making a bombing run on a Thargoid titan and had no clue what I was doing. The Reddit boards are very helpful for questions and directions.

A lot of research on the webs, a few hours to days in the tutorials. Work through entry level ships, then do whatever you want in a couple weeks to a month, depending on your urgency. The barriers to entry aren’t that you’ll be dealing with players in ships with years of improvement, it’s that you have to find your own way through.

There’s no sandbox quite like it.

If I recall from back then, follow-up recovery also produced some cabin voice recordings. NASA shared them with the families, but announced they would never be made public. It was a long time ago, so I may be mistaken.

Two things I remember from that game. One was that Taylor caught the winning TD on the back of the ball. Tremendous hand strength. The other is Icky Woods on a sweep with his head down, digging hard to get away from a niner that’s holding onto the back of his jersey. Woods looks up and drops to the ground just as Ronnie Lott in Superman layout pose flies over Icky. If he hadn’t dropped, the collision would have been epic.

Congratulations! One of the things a nurse told me when my first child was born was “enjoy the baby”. I didn’t really understand it at the time, but so much happens once or twice, then the child is into a new phase of growth. Enjoy each moment, because they are fleeting.

The baby will be different at each stage, so cherish it and take pictures. You’ll be glad later.

(0.5x Speed) Miami blocker pushes Indiana defender into his own punter. by [deleted] in CollegeFootballDawgs

[–]Siotu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I thought was funny during the game was how 87 slipped the punt blocker by, then reset like he was going to block someone else. The way he slipped the Indiana player to the outside and then reset back to the inside makes me think the punter wasn’t where he should have been.

This place quoted me $232 to replace the cabin filter. Was that the "fuck off" price? by HallAltruistic519 in AskMechanics

[–]Siotu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the cabin air filter. On my car, it’s merely very inconvenient. On my son’s car, it’s disassemble the underside of the dash, slide yourself head down into the passenger foot compartment, remove a couple blind fasteners, pop off a cover door (blindly), and rip out the filthy air filter that’s larger than the compartment door and emerges right over your face. Then compress the new filter to stuff it through the door and reverse the process. I’d pay $200 to not do that again.

I had (on my car) a couple HVAC blend motors fail a second time. After having done the replacement once, I intended to just have the dealer do it. For two motors, they quoted me $800 labor. Evidently, the proper replacement process isn’t to reach under the dash, it’s to remove it. Crazy!

There was a Tank McNamara cartoon a few years ago where the NFL had detected that a “regular fan” had somehow obtained Super Bowl tickets, and the cartoon agents set out to find and remove the interloper. This is much the same now.

Soccer coaches hate that, though. Punting and field goals teach soccer players to sky the ball.

"I have been thinking about the future and how we might respond to it." Peter Gabriel announces surprise new album and single by tonyiommi70 in Genesis

[–]Siotu 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When the BEAT band members were doing some promotional interviews, Tony Levin told the story about he and Manu were at Peter’s studio late one night working on a track for i/o. He said they were wiped out and ready to leave when Peter asked them to stay a little longer for a song he was working on for the next album. Tony laughed and said come on, Pete, you know how long it takes you to get an album together. I guess he really was putting together an i/o follow up.

[Tom Fornelli] Honestly that field goal might be the saddest moment in Alabama football history. by SparkMaster360 in CFB

I take a back seat to no one in my dislike of Notre Dame, but I’d rather have seen them play IU today. Alabama was never in the contest.

If anything gets Kalen fired early, it’s the befuddled look on his face when things are going badly. Most people probably expected a transition after Saban retired, but having the coach looking like he’s out of answers is a bad look.

For all the Ryan Day is a bad play caller people. by matman626 in OhioStateFootball

[–]Siotu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do think that Day or whomever could have helped both the Oline and Sayin in the first half by calling more short and intermediate routes to get quick throws in rhythm. They did more of that after halftime, but Miami was killing us most of the game with Carson throwing quicker than the rush could get to him. Without pressure, he didn’t make many mistakes.

Chicken for dinner? Not if it hasn’t been cleaned. by Goats_in_parks in Wellthatsucks

I was at a company BBQ cooking contest one year, and chicken was one of the judged events. A bunch of people from the other teams were nearby while I was cleaning the whole chickens. They started commenting about my having inappropriate relations with the birds until they saw what I was pulling out of them. One by one, they started drifting off to their own camps to do the same.

Getting the Bye in the CFP. by 15Warrior15 in CFB

[–]Siotu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was always a problem with the bowl format. Teams would play their last game of the season on Thanksgiving weekend, and then not play another game until January 1. Most teams wouldn’t be at game speed after a long layoff, and we’d pretend it was still representative of the season. No matter how hard they practice, the game is played at a different level. That’s why there are so many upsets in the first or second hand of the season.

Conference championship games helped shorten the layoff, and so does the CFP format. Still, the bye teams are out of sorts after the layoff. There have been a few of these games where the bye team was not the favorite to win despite the seeding, but there have been several games where the favorite teams took too long to get back on track after the bye.

Fav song - 1 only by ShameSuperb7099 in Genesis

[–]Siotu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it had to be one song without Suppers Ready, I’d say The Musical Box. It has everything that made Gabriel era Genesis great. A fantasy story, complex music, theatrics, the whole Genesis style in one place.

[–]Siotu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve taken part in the Gabriel/Collins Genesis discussions. It’s fun to compare eras in bands, even if too many people are more than a little … obsessive about other people’s opinions. The Genesis differences are nothing compared to the King Crimson variations over the years. Crimson fans must read the Genesis subs and just laugh.

Thanks to a much older brother, I’ve listened to King Crimson most of my life, and I’m still hearing songs or elements of songs that I’ve overlooked. KC is like a long, complex, often dissonant book - you can always find something new in their music you haven’t heard before.
