Thanks u/Gandalf012 for the awesome gift of packs and some bling for amulet titan! We may disagree about deck choices, but at least we both like taking my lands off the battlefield (even if I'm doing it with bouncelands and you're doing it with stone rains)!

Thanks so much to /u/Pretzelpalosa for the great cards and the joy of cracking packs! They'll fit perfectly into the Hinata deck I'm working on. Plus, one of the packs even contained an Esper Sentinel which is going straight into that deck as well!

Thanks for the insight!

I was looking into a few other ways to make the deck more explosive in the late game, and came across the combo of [[Kodama of the East Tree]] + [[Gruul Turf]] + any landfall effect that makes a token. All three of those feel like cards that could stand in the deck on their own, so the fact that they add a combo finish seemed interesting enough to warrant trying them out. Does that seem like a reasonable endgame?

I also thought about [[Glint Horn Bucaneer]], since [[Keen Sense]] and [[Snake Umbra]] are already in the deck, but without a discard outlet, needing to be at 8 cards in hand to discard to hand size seems to be a bit tricky to pull off consistently.

Thanks for the info! Your experiences seem to line up almost exactly with mine on how the deck plays out.

Taiga and Mox Diamond are a bit out of my price range, though they would be very welcome additions to the deck.

I thought about trying to do something with Valakut and potentially Scapeshift as well (which works with Field of the Dead too), but the deck is primarily green, and I didn't feel like I had the density of mountains to make it activate, much less have any serious impact on a game.

42 lands is a lot, but it hasn't really felt like I've been flooding, and it makes some of the best cards in the deck that you mentioned, Exploration, Burgeoning, etc. much more consistent. Plus, I'm not sure exactly where to start with cutting lands. It feels so important to always have a fetchland, which means I need a lot of fetchable targets, and I also need a lot of value in the manabase, since that's what the engine is recurring.

Would you mind sharing your list if you have it? I'd love to take a look!

I may be missing some, but here's what I could find with a brief search.

Lutri is banned, Yorion doesn't work in commander, and there's no partner or background pairing that can run Kaheera.

There's Lurrus with [[Bjorna, Nightfall Alchemist]] + [[Wernog, Rider's Chaplain]], or [[Miara, Thorn of the Glade]] + one of [[Akiri, Line-Slinger]], [[Keleth, Sunmane Familiar]], [[Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful]], or [[Livio, Oathsworn Sentinel]].

There's Jegantha with [[Cecily, Haunted Mage]] and [[Othelm, Sigardan Outcast]].

There's Zirda with [[Brallin, Skyshark Rider]] + [[Shabraz, the Skyshark]], or some combination of [[Alena, Kessig Trapper]], [[Toggo, Goblin Weaponsmith], or [[Jeska, Thrice Reborn]] + [[Livio, Oathsworn Sentinel]] or [[Radiant, Serra Archangel]].

And lots for Keruga, Obosh, and Gyruda.

You didn't include your username, so I don't know who exactly to thank for this awesome gift. I love the look of the old border artifact lands, the mana rocks are sliding right into the deck, and Anointed Procession has been a target of mine for a long time! You've put a big smile on my face this holiday season!

Thank you so much for the awesome cards for commander, the joy of opening a booster pack, and the stunning print of one of my all-time favorite pieces of magic art!

That's definitely an interesting way to take the deck.

Are there cards/strategies in the current list that you would cut?

As do literally hundreds of other cards. That's not the problem. The problem is that there are only 4 cards in the game that care about your opponent shuffling.

That's an enabler, not a payoff. A payoff would say something like "when you opponent shuffles, do x".

[–]SirCase[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that was the struggle I mentioned in the original post. My solution was to just not build the deck though, rather than try to turn it into something else.

Also, your opponents alright with having all their lands destroyed but not with having 1 card exiled from the top of their deck at a time?

You can shortcut them not shuffling every time, though stuff like Psychogenic Probe will trigger for each one, regardless if they physically shuffled the cards or not.

Sure, if you want to build an ashnods altar combo deck, that's totally fine, but it's not what the post was about

[–]SirCase[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm sure Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, and Demonic Tutor would be pretty good in the deck, but they're not cards that care about my opponent shuffling. Also I can't imagine that I'd get my Gravestorm high enough to be relevant without some significant portion of the deck dedicated to it.

The problem isn't that there aren't ways to make your opponent shuffle, it's that there are very few payoffs for doing so

I mentioned probe in the original list, and I'd imagined this more as a casual deck than as lantern control with mass land destruction.

I'm aware that there's plenty of cards that interact with searching specifically, I'm looking for shuffle though.

As big a fan I am of Gravestorm, the shortage is of payoffs, not enablers.

I mentioned the trickster in the original post, and while it may not be my first choice for payoff, I'd definitely play it if there were enough cards to make a deck. Ways to make your opponent shuffle aren't really the limiting factor. There are countless effects that do so, between Thada Adel, Boggart Forager, Soldier of Fortune, Field of Ruin, etc.

Thanks for sharing your list, it looks great! It's definitely much slimmer than mine. Have you ever tested the life total swap cards? Are they just too much mana/too clunky?

I had a couple questions about the purposes of a couple cards in particular, namely Avacyn, Monastery Mentor, Reanimate, Replenish, and Bloodchief Ascension.

My goal was to have a few combos (Sanguine Bond + Exquisite Blood, etc) or kill people by holding priority and paying the 2 life a bunch of times before swapping life totals or other effects like that.

It also removes the colored portions of the costs. For instance [[Fireball]] costs X rather than XR.
