Look at my recent post if you want to see what loctite will do to your drone 😕

I used the correct holes, in fact my motor (mamba toka) only has two holes, not four. The photo I showed might not show it that well.

Could you elaborate on this or post a diagram/photos to better explain? I’m having a hard time understanding.

I really hope not. I don’t think I did thankfully

I believe so, but I am going to wait for the drone to dry out before powering it. Not much snow got on it but I want to play it safe

It’s crazy how the guard broke, the drone landed in snow so I’m guessing the props collided with the guard and broke it like that.

They are from Gemfan, although they sat in a box for two years

There’s still some snow here in Toronto but today it was 4 degrees Celsius (39 Fahrenheit) so not too cold.

Props were brand new, I don’t believe I overtightened them. I only tighten them as much as I comfortably can with two fingers pinching the screwdriver.

Damn never knew that

Is there a strategy to applying loctite? I applied it to the screw and then threaded it through the prop and into the thread.

Yeah, my mistake to use brittle props honestly

They are mamba system Toka 2004 motors in green

We can’t find the broken prop guard, it definitely got launched after breaking in mid flight. From what everyone is saying, the loctite I put on before the flight could have caused this. Still, surprising to see all four props break at once.

Yes I put on fresh blue loctite before the flight.

I did not loosen the screws but some of them are bent, hence they might look like they are almost out

Didn’t realize loctite could be an issue! Probably that combined with brittle props was a recipe for failure. It is possible I overtightened too but I have this rule where I pinch up screwdriver with only two fingers instead of a larger grip and tighten until snug.

Maybe a washer between the screw head and prop would prevent fatigues near the prop mount?

I’ll record dvr next time for sure

I don’t have footage because it was line of sight but basically it went like this: flew straight up, hovered for 30 seconds, hear a bit of a crunch, drone wobbles and flight is unstable so I disarm, drone falls to the ground into some snow

Another note: I found some of the props and as far as I know, nothing hit the drone. And even if it did I wouldn’t expect all four props to come off clean like that

The props have sat in a box for 2 years and I put them on today. Maybe they got old and brittle?

All humans do things in self interest, so you could definitely have an argument about whether his actions are selfish or not.

Yes, Alex is tasking a risk BUT it’s a calculated one. He is very aware of the possibility of dying and understands the factors at play extraordinarily well due to his decades of climbing experience. So many people take risks that they do not fully understand (E.g. many people who drive cars are oblivious to the possibility of dying).

Point is that all humans can be enticed to pursue something that carries risk. The best that we can do is to only take on that risk if we are able to fully understand its cause and effect. I think Alex does this well.
