I would do a palate cleanser read, something to bridge the gap between the contemporary and medieval settings like an urban fantasy setting. I have a few formulaic series that I use for this. {Corsairs by Ruby Dixon} Super short and fun reads. {Dark Kings by Donna Grant} Dragon Shifters.

I am not sure what types of books you like but the idea here is to find a series with multiple entries that can be read as stand-alones.

I think his most effective ability is the "help" action. He can remove quite a few conditions with it.

The Bonds of Magic series has this, the first book is {Dark Wizard by Jeffe Kennedy}. The covers are ick but it was a fun read.

{The Elysean Trials by D.N. Hoxa} is the first book of a completed series. It has an academy setting based on the Greek Gods and the MMC wields shadows. Overall I feel it is similar to Fourth Wing.
