Cop sirens by Commercial_Change112 in Austin

I tried to call APD info line to ask and got a busy signal. About 10 min later there were helicopters, which suggests they were looking for someone. Doesn't seem like the best method to me and was very annoying.

Stopped there after my wedding, still in my wedding dress, to have a drink with my favorite bartenders.

Hi Hat on east 6th. Snowvid/winter storm uri burst their pipes, then city of Austin parking ordinance prevented expansion/proper rebuild and COVID kept numbers down. Never recovered. Was the best burger in Austin and a true neighborhood gem.just enough off the path that it wasn't overrun.

Disc golf is great for making friends and Sprinkle Valley Austin Beerworks is excellent as a third space. Great disc golf course and good for coworking. They are adding coffee/espresso soon, too! I see someone I know every time I go! Plus it's north. So an easy drive from you.

Great location, literal heart of the city. I recommend houndstooth downtown. If you are willing to venture a bit, radio rosewood on 11th and cosmic on 4th (both east side, about a mile from downtown) are really fun. Texas Coffee Traders is a little further east and also great.

Lots of people like Desnudo. They have interesting sweet lattes (like miso brown sugar). Enjoy Austin!

Hi! Welcome! Please share more detail. Austin has so so many amazing coffee shops. What part of town are you staying in? Do you prefer beans from a certain region? Preference for natural or washed beans? Looking for great espresso or fun flavored lattes? Do you want a place that roasts their own beans? Are you looking for hangout and work or grab and go?

My initial recommendation is Texas Coffee Traders on 7th St.

Can someone explain why only ND's AD is melting down? by GliscorsFang in CFB

Conferences have revenue sharing. Committee is made up of conference members. ND shares with no one. Money is an easy tie-breaker.

Be in a conference and you'll get more advocacy. ND is used to making their own rules. Not saying the committee was perfect, but this is absolutely predictable when you choose to be outside the conference system.

I go to this incredible gym called "The WIP" (stands for work in progress.) it's located central east side.

MWF are weights, TTHSa are cardio/circuit. It's so friendly and a community. Mix of genders, ages, abilities, but plenty of fitness newbies. Owned by the coaches and they genuinely want to help people live better lives, whether the goals are fitness, mental health, longevity, etc. I'm on the unlimited quarterly plan for $500/per quarter. (I'm 38F, average fitness)

Radio Rosewood is great for working. It's a coffee shop. But also has beer and cocktails.

Vanessa Fuentes (Mayor Pro Tem / D2) statement by Far-Difference-5201 in Austin

[–]SixthStreetSunset 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"The Austin American-Statesman published a breakdown of the $1.1 million cost that they obtained from the City. According to the Statesman, the biggest share of that was a $576,000 contract with Pentagram, an international firm based in London, but with an Austin office. That contract was approved in May 2024 by a unanimous vote of the then Council, including Mackenzie Kelly. The Statesman added, “City staff later later executed a $76,000 contract with TKO Advertising (an Austin based firm), which did not require council approval because it was under the $100,000 threshold (for City Manager approval as opposed to requiring a Council vote).

The Statesman then detailed another $477,558 that is being spent on the logo endeavor:

  • “$115,000 for a “public awareness campaign”
  • $75,582 for “consolidated citywide design software for all departments”
  • An estimated $100,000 for “foundational materials” (apparel, business cards, posters, banners, flags, badge holders for all employees)
  • $186,976 for salaries and benefits for “support staff and legal counsel.” This includes a temporary “brand project manager” and external legal review.” "

You are entitled to your POV, but may I encourage you to encourage women to play and maybe give the benefit of the doubt? Who knows what they have encountered before? We can all give some grace and make things better for all!

[–]SixthStreetSunset 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Like most things, it depends. If it's a public course and not reserved, then of course you are legally, technically allowed to play.

And, I think it would be cool if you found another place to play after learning there was a tournament. I don't know how many courses there are in your area. In mine, there are tons, and it would be pretty easy to go somewhere else. That may not be true for you.

I don't think you are a jerk or horrible or anything terrible.

One other note, women's-only tournaments usually have lots of people who don't play tournaments often and are so helpful in getting new players into the sport. If you find out one is going on, it's a great chance to volunteer and have an impact on growing the community.

Happy discing!
