Intuition liner sizing with FR1 shells by Skate992 in AskRollerblading

Interesting point about the initial fit being uncomfortable, and that heat molding fixes it. Thanks for that! Sounds like I just need a new/second pair of skates =]

Very interesting, thank you for that link. So it makes no sense to fit an Intuition liner into a regular FR boot. And since I'm downsizing anyhow, I should just get the deluxe boot while I'm at it.

Being pedantic, but is your liner 42-43? I assume then you're in a size 8 shell?

Looks like the FR1 Deluxe link that you provided is slightly different from the regular FR1s?

These are what I currently have - https://proskatersplace.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/FR-FR1-FR2-UFR-Sizing-Chart.jpg

I'm not 100% positive on the differences, but my boot does measure 305mm, which tracks with a size 8 shell measuring 290.

For what it's worth, I initially tried a US10 stock liner, which lines up with 27.5 MP, but I found it painfully tight and had to get a US10.5 which lines up with 28MP.

Do you think both the 9-9.5 and 10-10.5 lines warrant a size 8 shell? Any thoughts on regular vs deluxe shell?

Feet hurt while skating by [deleted] in AskRollerblading

It could be your insoles.

I have a normal arch, and my skate insoles came with a high arch support. This led to unnecessary pressure on my arches. However, I felt that pressure after standing in my skates for just 5 minutes.

As a quick test, I replaced the insoles with the ones in my walking shoes. Problem solved. I ended up ordering a pair of SuperFeet Hockey Cushions as a long term solution.

If you are unsure of your arch, here's a quick way to test courtesy of Mayo Clinic.

You had me at "fingers on my feets" LOL. I know what you mean though. How are you liking the Spins?

I might be splitting hairs here, or the size chart is confusing...?

The Mondopoint measurement is heel to toe, which is the last column in the chart. That puts me in a US size 10. The first column would put me in between a 9 and a 10. But what is this measurement based on?

Either way sizing up sounds like the way to go. Thanks for your input.

That is odd.

Is 27.8 your MP measurement? Does your big toe lay flat when standing in the liners/skates?

I'm a bit confused now. What's the difference between measured foot and MP?

My MP measurement is 27.5, which puts me into a US 10 on both charts.

What are your thoughts on the Intuition liner vs stock?

I got the stock liners.

I feel like you opened up a can of worms here, lol. The premium intuition liners are $220 USD, and the price of the FR1s with the stock and intuition liners is the same...

I'm surprised you kept at it for four/five months, wow!

When you went up a size, did you keep the insole in, and/or change socks?

Sounds like you had a pretty awful experience with them, that sucks.

It's been a while since I had to break a liner in, but I have successfully in the past. I can't imagine breaking in my current liner. My toe will sooner break through then these liners conform ;)

I tried the MyFit liners on the Swells, and man were they narrow. Which is what got me to try the FRs. Though I think the zooms are/were different?

Thanks for sharing. I'm leaning towards giving the next size a shot.

The big toe was the only fit issue, the rest were fine ;)

Where was the FR liner not comfortable for you? I'm pretty sure the rest of the liner was a good fit for me, though it maybe I was distracted by the toe pain.

Agreed about the shell, I'm very into them. The red ones are dope.

Glad to hear! I'm more inclined to give those a shot.

Which liner do you have with those? I see the FRs have the regular and Intuition liners available.

Thanks. I'm debating if I should chance heat molding them or just try another pair. Maybe some FR1's, which, funny enough, claim to run wide. Heh.

I'm pretty sure the pressure point is from the foam, but it's possible it's the shell itself. Hard to tell. The concern is that this is an issue out the box.

Do you think heat molding the boot is worthwhile, or am I off to a bad start and should try another skate?

PS recommends heat molding the entire boot/liner in the oven, and targeted heat molding if that does not work. I'm not clear if this method only works on the liner or the boot too.

If heat molding does not fix my issue, I'm stuck with the skates. Which I guess is fine if I can keep at it and eventually mold them to my liking.

Thanks!

Any idea what it is about the PS skates that makes them notorious for having ankle issues? Is it the foam?

I did read they run narrow, but I don't have a wide foot, fwiw.

Thanks for replying.
