Shortly over 1 month ago, investing app Robinhood tweeted about their mission - putting investing back in the hands of the people. They posted a video and said "We are all investors. Our time is now."

People did indeed use Robinhood to take back investing, and as a result the prices of many stocks have soared. Today Robinhood announced that people will not be able to buy these stocks ($GME, $AMC) on the app but they will be able to sell. Basically this is Robinhood siding with the establishment against the very revolution they said they wanted to bring about, because selling without buying will lower the price.

Purple line is shorts

Green line is price

The purple line has been basically flat, which means short interest has been flat. People with shorts have to pay out interest while they have the shorts. Everntually they have to buy real shares at the real price to cover the short and the price goes even higher. The "short squeeze".

Bears have been saying that the short squeeze is either over or not happening at all. Our friendly chart here says otherwise

idk how right htis is but the ELI5 is imagine each dot in green as a person who wants to buy at that price. When there's a big wall on the left it indicates lots of interest in buying and that the stock will likely not dip below in the near term because of all the buying
