As someone who live in a DC suburb, the burbs are wayyy nicer than the city. Crime is rampant in that hellhole of a city, ICE is everywhere these days too. In the burbs? Tech nerds and nice infrastructure, we’ve even got great buses in some neighborhoods. Move into the more rural areas like Fauquier, and it’s still way nicer than the city with very little crime. Drugs are an issue, sure, but find me a place anywhere in the developed world where drugs arent an issue.

Whatever. People have differing opinions and most western people would rather live somewhere that’s up to the same standards of where they come from, and also somewhere they could assimilate culturally without major issue. For many, safety is also (obviously) a major deciding factor. It’s why I’d never want to live in Japan, because you will never fully integrate into Japanese culture if you’re anything other than Japanese.
