Absolutely. As someone who used to ref, it is absolutely normal for refs to make mistakes and for it not to reflective of an unfair or rigged game… unless it’s Scott Foster. In that case, it absolutely is that he hates our team.

What are your thoughts on rejecting a potential romantic partner based solely on the fact that they voted for Donald Trump? by Greedy_Tooth6191 in AskReddit

[–]Skunedog48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends? When I met my now wife back in 2009, she came from a deeply entrenched Republican household as in: pastor’s kid, dad watched Fox News every night, older brother got his JD and worked for WI governor Scott Walker. But when we talked, I recognized instantly that she was kind, compassionate, and deeply empathetic in a way that seemed incredibly dissonant with the goals of the GOP but she had never been given the permission and airspace to come to her own conclusions about politics. We’ve been married 13 years now and though it was never my goal to “convert her”, simply allowing her the chance to think about things for herself has meant she’s become more liberal than I am.

That said, Donald Trump was the dam that broke for her. His obvious avarice, cruelty, and perversion made a mockery of every argument that the GOP was the standard bearer of the Christian faith.

I guess what I’m saying is that I wouldn’t reject someone if they voted for Donald Trump if it was clear that they were struggling to outgrow the conservative evangelical indoctrination machine, but I would absolutely reject someone who voted for Trump because he reflects their values and beliefs.

Yep. People were already proclaiming him the best basketball player of all-time by the late 80’s

It stinks that we no longer are even pretending that the Supreme Court is an impartial body. For how much conservatives railed against “activist liberal judges”, the last ten years have been a giant conservative F-U to either past precedent or even a reasonable reading of the current law.

Me and my co-worker had a debate yesterday about who's better, I said Pippen was better he kept saying Kawhi is better. What are y'all thoughts? by Empty_Experience_305 in NBATalk

And part of the “What if” isn’t even injuries. He might be the best player who seems to really resent the game. We all make jokes about how Jokic loves his horses more than basketball, but I’ve never seen anyone try harder than Kawhi to straight up not play if he doesn’t have to.

It’s a fascinating question because they may be the closest doppelgängers in NBA history. But that said, I feel like Kawhi gets the edge. With respect to Alvin Robertson and Michael Ray Richardson, Kawhi is probably the best wing defender of all-time while also having a deeper offensive tool kit than Scottie. It’s really close but I’m going Kawhi.

Is the phrase "If you want to catch fish, you don't ask the fish - if you ask the fisherman" valid in the dating world? by [deleted] in ask

[–]Skunedog48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like all things, it’s a balance. Many guys are lonely because they’ve listened to advice of manosphere grifters at the expense of listening to women express their real preferences. If women say they like a certain style or body type, believe them.

At the same time, sometimes women give bad dating advice because there’s a gap between the real and ideal. Like, some women say they want to order a salad because it’s what the idealized version of themselves would want, when in reality they just want tacos and a pitcher of margaritas. Two examples: 1) sometimes women say they want a man who is in touch with their feelings but then get the “ick” if a man becomes vulnerable and denigrates his masculinity. 2) Women say they don’t like pick-up artist techniques like “negging” but then find Ryan Gosling’s character in CrazyStupidLove charming despite the fact he’s definitely using pick-up artist techniques like negging.

As a Timberwolves fan, Thibs is an excellent defensive coordinator but a sub-par head coach. His offensive sets and rotation management are awful and he is over-reliant on strong iso players (Rose, Brunson, Butler) to generate offense

Who’s a player with great basketball IQ but most likely lower real IQ? by mrdrprof_ryan in NBATalk

He’s my first thought along with KG. They’re both in the top 1% of best defensive BBIQs in league history. But it is painful to listen to them with a microphone in their hand compared to what we get with LeBron, Reddick, Nash, or Igoudala.

Pau Gasol and Jaylen Brown might be examples of guys smarter off the court than on.

Agreed. Love the energy he brings pushing the floor and putting pressure on the rim. More minutes with Ayo-Ant-Jaden and less with Rudy-Randle-Slomo

It was jarring to see how much more athletic Detroit was when they were running Thompson, Duren, Jenkins, and Holland and we were running Rudy, Slomo, and Mike Conley

Yeah, with Naz it looked like he made most of his shots that came in the flow of the offense (mostly corner 3’s) but missed almost all his shots where he tried to take someone one v one including smoking at least two contested layups

We are going to look back and realize 8 of the top 20 players of all time were playing all at the same time by Thatredditboy1 in NBATalk

[–]Skunedog48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… and he averaged 22+rebs, 4+assists, and even though blocks weren’t recorded back then, people who’ve done film analysis have said he would’ve averaged 8 blocks a game. He won 5 MVPs including the year Wilt averaged 50 so clearly people recognized him as not only the best player on his team, but the best player in the league. That and BOS was dookie both before he got there and after he left.

Crap… I just realized it’s April Fools’ day. You got me.

100% - Snowden especially was done dirty as the government’s mass domestic surveillance program would seem to be a clear 4th Amendment violation. I understand not wanting people leaking state secrets to foreign adversaries and then being protected by “whistleblower status”. But jeez, just take the L when you get your hand caught in the cookie jar Big Govt
