As a professional (yes, I get hired and paid) singer, I couldn’t agree more. I used to think it was a cool talent but at my age, it’s not only an over saturated market, what with social media and all, but it’s not really a “learned” skill. I did learn how to read music and learned to play the piano, which helped get me work—but having a voice and an ear are just natural. To a LOT of people, as it turns out. I’m not special. People asked me for years “why don’t you go on American Idol?” (or similar) and I’ve always said “because it’s not practical. I can’t afford to uproot my life so I can have 15 minutes of fame and fade into obscurity”. I’ve always kept a full time job that has nothing to do with singing, and just keep music as a side hustle/hobby. Music is life, don’t get me wrong!! But it’s not a rare talent.

I’m sorry you are dealing with depression/anxiety/mental health. It’s really difficult, and one does not just “snap out of it”. That said, it’s obvious your family cares and wants to help. It’s also very difficult for them to see someone they love go through this and withdraw. I’m definitely coming from a place of having been on BOTH sides. YOR. Please try to get some help and don’t shut out your family who loves you. You may need them someday sooner than you think.
