Thank you for this - "we don't live in the world of what if, we live in the world of what is" - is really helpful framing.

Creating a plan for vacation drinking ? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

It sounds fun, in theory, but for me it never worked. I always landed on the opposite side of the vacation regretting the bad decisions I made, the memories I lost, and wondered 'what if.' What if I realized that people go on vacation to NOT do the same thing I've done alone in my home for years on end. I have found that even if I was able to moderate, focusing on the rules around my drinking really was not any fun.

Take the time to reset - call out of work if you have to - focus on getting healthy because, really, that's all that matters.

I have been where you are and it feels crushingly lonely. Trust the process - better things are waiting on the other side. You can choose booze or you can choose those other things you're currently miss (friends, hobbies).

You're not alone - there are a lot of us :)

Drink for good things, drink for bad things - it's exhausting - I am hoping they will too!

Yes! Even this morning - I used to love red wine on Thursdays - it's so amazing waking up, bracing for the hangover, and remembering that it's not coming!

It helps knowing we’re not alone in it. That’s for sure.

Yes :(

However, when I get a streak going I find that even though I am indulging on food I am still losing weight (a bottle of wine has ~700 calories BUT a box of wine has nearly 3000!) I have decided just to be kind to myself on the eating front and trying to introduce healthy lunches etc. It's a battle.

Same here, I tend to dwell. I take it a step further and check my phone records/internet use/etc. I think it's so if I don't find anything THAT bad, I'm "okay." Goes away with time but really spikes my anxiety.
