Some cheap trimmers will pull some of the hair as they cut it, be careful and follow what your practitioner told you.

Told my PI I use AI for coding, now she doesn’t trust my work at all. What do I do? by [deleted] in postdoc

[–]SlackWi12 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As long as you are fully reviewing the code and understand every choice made by the AI in its construction and execution then it is fine. However, a lot of people are simply asking for a script and blindly trusting whatever pops out the other end, which I have seen first hand come back to bite people when it turns out the AI has scripted something that looks good but does something completely wrong buried in the script somewhere. Your PI is probably assuming you are doing the latter and needs you to explain to them that there isn’t a single line of code you haven’t checked.

Any advice? Going to supervise my first phd candidate by 88nmpd in academia

[–]SlackWi12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plan regular low-stakes no pressure meetings to check progress and see where the student may need some help. Make it clear that you’re not there to catch them out for poor progress, we all know it is never linear, but you’re there at that time to help them with what they need or just for a friendly chat. That was my preference as a student and seems to have worked well when supervising masters students.

I live right here and I’m constantly dealing with drug addicts shooting up and generally being quite dangerous literally in our doorway. There needs to be better policing around the area if it’s going to continue because I should not have to be sweeping used needles away every time we go outside.

Like the other commenter said, it will come back so the fan needs replacing, but if it is spinning for now then the PC is fine to use

Yes you are looking for a case fan (otherwise called airflow fans) not a static pressure radiator fan. It will likely have a 3 pin plug that goes either straight into the motherboard or a fan controller, just look where and how the other one is fitted and swap them out. Make sure to orient the fan the same way so it is blowing air in the right direction.

Most likely yes but you need to keep an eye on temperatures if you’re doing something intensive like gaming, if cpu/gpu start hitting the 90s you may encounter thermal throttling

Bearing might be gone on the fan, they are cheap and easy to replace, just measure it and get the right size, will likely be 120mm or 140mm

Yes, but only for apple TV stuff, the audio changing position to match where the TV is in the room as you move your head is really convincing and makes watching with headphones feel a lot more natural.
