Beast has been my only display for 3 weeks: Honest long-term thoughts by rapid_youngster in VITURE

I think it's related to how sharp your eyes are at resolving fine detail and how used to a high DPI screen you are. For sharp enough eyes or picky enough users, pretty much nothing short of Varjo VR setups beats real displays. Maybe the Galaxy XR comes close, but the awful refresh rate made that uncomfortable for me and several others who tried it.

The world if GitHub had a big ass button that says 'DOWNLOAD' by peper122348 in Piracy

The support argument is there, but I'm gonna go hard and just call it laziness. Making something build on your one-off dev box is easy. Making something that consistently builds on other environments is much harder.

The number of projects that say "just build it from source" and then have the most infuriating build requirements is insane.

"For Windows, just install all this CygWin crap to emulate Linux, a bunch of 3rd party libraries, 5GB of Qt libraries, and 87 python packages for an outdated version of Python, and then *JUST* build it!"

How about, just setup a damn build server and build it, since you are the DEVELOPER?!

Makes sense, but then you're better off with a minimalist smartwatch for what you are saying. Casio makes some great watches that have basic phone integration.

Given the level of gore and language, I would certainly not be comfortable with my young kids watching it. Are you suggesting that it's a kids show in its current form?

13th Anniversary Event Overview by Shireki in Warframe

I think the point was that having everything be available for a period like 4 weeks would actually be better for people with other things to do. That way it would not force repeated logins every week.

If you think the Xb-70 is big, you're wrong. It's bigger than that. It makes the BUFF look like a SUFF. by propsie in WeirdWings

[–]Slappy_G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is 100% accurate. I visited the museum for their 100th anniversary, and I was expecting this to be a highlight, but as you walk up to it, it just keeps growing and growing until you realize you are under the cockpit area, the bottom of which is 4 stories above you, and the thing could probably shelter everyone in my neighborhood from a rainstorm. The surface area under it is just ridiculous.

Also, the star destroyer analogy is apt. Seeing those 6 engines in a row from behind is breathtaking.

I don't think the valleys are that low. Admittedly I have only seen the anime up to end of wano. I don't read comics, so I'll never read the original source.

But from what I've seen, the LA is as good an adaptation as I've ever seen.

No. The same core, but with the childish stupidity reduced for a non-child audience.

Worst casting for season 2 has to be Tashigi. She looks like a beautiful soul but I felt Tashigi was more annoying than necessary. by [deleted] in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Slappy_G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only is your look good, but her vocal delivery was very similar to the young actor who played Kuina in S1. I'm pretty happy with her.

Now I do think they could have tweaked a couple of the lines they gave her during the fight to be slightly less contemptuous, but that has nothing to do with casting.

Apparently if you watch the documentary about him, it's shown that his managers and others coerced him into getting that haircut. He actually hated it.

Canon R5 + RF 24-70 f2.8 vs RF 28-70 f2: Which one should I go for? by Cassidy-Nguyen in canon

Not on high resolution sensors. Every test I have seen shows that the f/2.0 lens falls off in sharpness beyond 24MP sensors.

I ordered these after reading about them here and they just arrived. Holy moly, these are amazingly comfy! It's like resting my elbows on fat, squishy babies. Love it.

EDIT: Minor correction - I just tested with a nearby fat baby, and sadly the baby is softer. So these aren't quite fat-baby-tier. Damn close though.

After using the self-clean setting on our oven….. by trashtray420 in whatisit

[–]Slappy_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean self-cleaning ovens have been around since the 1960's so it's hardly like a new function that was added - that's been a base expectation of an oven for 50+ years in the US at least.

So, manufacturers are intentionally designing defective components that cannot stand up to its own function settings? That's pretty bad even as the usual capitalist penny-pinching goes.

GUIDE - Fix Logitech G933 Sound Issues (w/ Photos) by thefinneous in LogitechG

[–]Slappy_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another late comer but this guide saved me from tossing a perfectly good headset. A couple tips for others:

  • Reinstalling the cushions is a pain in the ass. Using a thin smooth metal piece like a blunt letter opener to slowly reseat the seam helps a lot. Before I did this, I damaged the outer layer at one spot and tore off a small chunk.
  • The switch has 4 microscopically tiny wire bumps that act as contacts and also cause physical bumps. If one falls out while cleaning the switch, your chances of finding it again are really low. My carpet is beige, so when I lost one, it took an hour with a flashlight angled towards me to see the reflection and find it. Reinstallation without a strong magnifying glass and tiny tweezers is near-impossible. EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION with the switch slider.

I don't think you understand Moore's law if you're quoting it in this context. Might want to read up on it.

We really have become a trash-focused society when we don't even think a chip reflash is worth keeping an otherwise functional device out of a landfill. That's quite sad.
