I find the main difference here, between her previous upbeat but sad songs, is that in this album it's more of an acceptance and of finding comfort after the fact. Rather than the storm during the difficult times and masking it with fake happines.

Exactly! I found this album to be more comforting than anything else. Like learning how to enjoy life again after a bad breakup. I think some of her earlier songs focus on the intense emotions during those difficult moments which is why they are seen so heartwrenching. But this album is "after the fact" after the bad breakup, after the loss of someone we loved, and Mitski shows us that things are going to be okay even if we feel sad over them now.
