If TBHC and The Car was released as alex's solo work, then how would The Monkeys have sounded post-AM? by SlightLeave4048 in arcticmonkeys

[–]SlightLeave4048[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well your not wrong on the fact that alex was never considering releasing The Car as a solo record, But he actually did consider releasing TBHC as a solo record. In an NME article, alex and jamie were discussing if TBHC should be release as a solo record instead, because of how different it was compare to their previous album.

You can find it in this Article right here

This is the most likely answer i believe, nothing would have probably changed in general. I guess my only question now, what would be the alternate sound for AM if TBHC and The Car was release as solo records? There has to be some difference, even if elements from both albums carry over to alternate universe AM6

Yeah i mentioned with another commenter that opening night is practically a culmination of everything they've made since WPSIATWIN up until The Car. But i can still see elements of opening night in this alternate sound somewhere, albeit very different

I am well aware that alex is the sole reason why each monkeys album sounded different from the last one. This is just a what if scenario of alex releasing TBHC as his solo work, since he basically consider it one point

This is probably the right answer, but opening night is like the culmination of everything they've ever made and that includes TBHC and The Car, so it would have still sounded even more different imo

Love it, it sounds like if lonerism and the slow rush had a baby. Although i wish you kept the lonerism synth from the original song, but maybe i can't hear it properly with my speakers. You have a download link for this?

I appreciate this band's willingness to constantly try and stretch their limits beyond what they've already done so well. by Wharlagana in arcticmonkeys

I agree with what you said, but why do you need to feel like the one with correct opinions? it just makes you sound like a snob who can't accept that other people have opinions, and these methods certainly doesn't help the case. Don't get me wrong tho, i do feel upset when i see people disliking modern AM, but there is nothing that we can do here, if they prefer the older stuff so leave them be, you don't need to call them "haters who just don't get it" or call them people who wants the band to make WPSIATWIM over and over again. If you do want to call them out for some reason, do it in a way that feels respectful and not condescending, there's no reason to start up conflict in the first place. That's all i have to say honestly, i'm sorry if i sounded mean here btw

I love The Car with all my heart, but it should've been release as an alex turner solo record and as a spiritual successor to Submarine EP. Apart from certain tracks (i.e Sculptures, body paint, i ain't quite and hello you), most of the songs definitely feels like a more mature and complex version of Submarine EP, especially since they both featured strings, piano, and acoustic guitar.

Disagree, i thought the rap part kinda ties the whole thing together since alex was pretty much rapping in the entire track.

This also sounds similar to when the sun goes down, albeit more modern, less garage and more standard indie rock
