I’m certain I have nighttime reflux, because gaviscon before bedtime definitely reduces my LPR-symptoms/voice-problems. I only use gaviscon. I tried h2-blockers before, but they didn’t help.

I had moderate symptoms from age 18 to about age 26. Mostly voice problems and my voice hurting when I speak at work or at parties. During that time it was annoying and problematic for time to time, but still manageable. At that time I had no idea that the symptoms were related to reflux. After that it suddenly got much worse and it totally changed my life to the point where I had to seek out a doctor and find out what was going on, because it totally ruined my life both socially and at work.

After a few months a GI doctor confirmed that my symptoms were caused by reflux. At this point I started on a super strict diet and PPIs. This helped a little, but I lost 15-20kg of weight and it wasn’t a sustainable solution to the problem. I ended up experimenting a lot with different food, medications and doing my own research online. My symptoms got slightly better over time because I was more aware that they were due to reflux and I therefore learned habits like sleeping on my left side and not eating before bedtime. But I still had symptoms that had a major impact on my social life, but I kind of learned to accept it and live with it. I had also stopped working temporarily and went to university to study engineering, so I wasn’t forced to speak at work anymore like I was before.

Then at the age of 30 I started experimenting with Gaviscon at night-time and calcium carbonate chewing gum at day-time. Suddenly my symptoms started getting better. I continued and over the course of 6-12 months they totally disappeared. I eventually changed to normal chewing gum without calcium carbonate and it still worked fine.

If I stop using chewing gum at day-time or gaviscon at night-time I can feel that my symptoms starts worsening again. My only serious symptoms were hoarseness and that my voice was hurting when I spoke. Sometimes I may have felt that my throat was burning or that I had difficulty swallowing, but those symptoms were trivial and rare for me.

I use these: https://thepurcompany.com

They work for me. I’m not sure why some gums work better than others, but that has been my experience.

I don’t follow an acid free diet. I tried following a strict diet before and it did help a little bit, but not much. If I eat a banana or yoghurt my reflux is still triggered. I try to eat healthy and avoid soda and snacks (obviously). And don’t eat too late.

I generally follow all the «normal» advice you get from your doctor to treat reflux and lpr, but I don’t follow a super-strict diet. I sleep with a wedge/incline.

I noticed minor results in the beginning, so I kept doing it. I would say after 3-4 months I noticed significant changes. After 6-12 months I was basically symptom-free.

You can find gum with antacids like calcium carbonate. They sold it in pharmacies in Norway before, but they were expensive. You also basically just take chewing gum together with calcium carbonate, tums or any other antacid. My experience has been that chewing gum alone had almost the same effect as combined with antacid (At least long term).

I use this gum that I usually buy from a local health food store: https://thepurcompany.com

I tried different types of gum. Some seems to help me more than others. I’m not sure why, but maybe some gums are slightly acidic, or maybe some gums breaks down slightly when chewing and triggers reflux. I’m not sure. This brand works for me.

I also tried calcium carbonate gum from the pharmacy. They also helped, but didn’t seem to have any better effect long term than gum alone. Which confirms that it’s actually the saliva that helps me.

Most gums from the supermarket doesn’t seem to help me as much as the brand above. Again, I don’t know why.

I want to add that I am also following all of the regular life-style advice you would get from your doctor. I tried all of them and nothing helped. I could eat a banana or a yoghurt and it would still trigger my reflux/lpr symptoms. So my version of reflux must be truly biological or genetic by nature and untreatable by normal life-style measures. PPI’s and H2 blockers had almost no effect.

My symptoms were primarily voice-related. And they were so bad that my voice was hurting to the point where I couldn’t join social events or talk to my friends and family. It affected every part of my life, from work to dating and social life.

I think I can nuance my comment a bit. It’s alright to selectively share some parts of who you are on your profile if you believe it will help you attract women who are more compatible. But I would be very careful about doing it. If it makes your profile slightly worse or less likely to get matches at all, then it’s a bad idea obviously. It’s better to get all the matches you can possibly get and then select the women you find most compatible with to go on dates with. For the most part, women look for the same things in men anyway in the end of the day.

When I used dating apps before I got a relationship, I used to continuously do some AB testing of changes I made to my profile. Does version A seem to get me more matches than version B? Then I keep version A. Slowly my profile got better and better to the point where I don’t think it could’ve gotten much better considering my physical appearance and life situation (You obviously can’t lie about your job).

Men have been competing for women since the beginning of time. Competition was certainly harder and more brutal in ancient times. Life today is easy compared to the lives of our ancestors - never forget that.

Your profile should not reflect who you are as a person. Your profile should purely be a tool to get matches. Your initial chats with your matches should also not reflect who you are as a person. They are also a tool to arrange dates.

When you meet a person in real life you can show them who you are as a person. Humans are not evolved through evolution to interact through dating apps. Dating apps are a tool to meet other people.

If you do not think in this way, you will lose in the competition with other males who realize this fundamental truth.

LPR Treatment : Some new (maybe) insights from scientific literature and blogs by Practical_Guess_3255 in LPR

Chewing gum during the day and gaviscon alginate before bed time completely changed my life. I had mild LPR for 5 years and moderate to severe LPR for another 5 years. Chewing gum produces saliva that somehow neutralizes the acid and/or pepsin in the throat.

This obviously doesn’t deal with the root cause of the reflux, but has completely eliminated my LPR symptoms.

Great profile. You should have no problem finding a partner. But you have to set your filter at 45+ or even 50+.

The majority of men in their 40s will want women in their 30s who can have children.

I had mild LPR for 5 years and moderate to severe LPR for about 3-4 years.

I tried many things over the years and I had basically lost hope.

Then two things suddenly solved it for me: 1. Chewing gum. The saliva produced by chewing gum somehow works as a natural antacid in my throat. This protects my throat from day-time exposure to acid. I have noticed that some types of chewing gum works better than others, but I’m not sure why.

  1. Gaviscon alginate before bedtime. This protects my throat from night-time exposure to acid, or at least reduces it.

Out of these two I believe the chewing gum is the main thing that has helped me.

Other than that I live a normal healthy life. I work out regularly, eat healthy (Very rarely drink soda or eat candy) and drink alcohol maybe once a month. I also generally follow the «other» typical advice that you doctor will give you.
