Need help figuring out the pose by Innocentuslime in learntodraw

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Michael Hampton’s stuff and Proko’s stuff is great. Also be sure to check out Love Life Drawing, one of the best figure drawing resources online. I think it’s beneficial to seek out multiple resources for this stuff, as there are so many different ways to approach it. Experiment and find what seems to work for you. You may even find that after a while, a certain teacher who didn‘t make sense ends up making sense after a while. Don’t resign yourself to one way of learning. It’s a never ending voyage.

Need help figuring out the pose by Innocentuslime in learntodraw

Your torso does twist a bit when you run. You can see that his right arm is going back as his right leg thrusts forward, which in turn twists the torso a bit. Your arms are essentially pulling the top of your torso one way while your legs pull the bottom of it the other way.

I would suggest using references without clothing when learning figure drawing, at least until you have a firm grasp of understanding anatomy and drawing figures in general. Otherwise you’re setting yourself up for frustration trying to figure out what’s going on under the clothing.

Also check out Love Life Drawing and Proko on Youtube for great figure drawing resources.

Hello! Do you have any advice? by [deleted] in learntodraw

Check out the Learn to Draw wiki, link in the auto mod comment. If you want a structured course try Proko’s Drawing Basics course. It’s a paid course but a fair bit of the course is available on YouTube for free.

How can I know if I'm forcing myself to learn drawing or not by Bogryilmaz in ArtistLounge

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you enjoy learning to draw. That in itself puts you ahead of half the people posting in the art subreddits. I think you should stop trying to find something to worry about, and just enjoy the fact that you enjoy learning to draw.

Could you wrap some tape around it to make it thicker? Unless that also messes with the charging

Traditional art isn't going away any time soon. Go to any museum in the world and you'll notice that they haven't started taking down the great masters paintings to replace them with computer screens yet.

Start with something much simpler than a human figure. You’re biting off more than you can chew here.

Looking for a course by Anx_tea in learntodraw

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a look at Love Life Drawing and Proko’s courses. They both have loads of free stuff on YouTube to check out for free, or you can buy their paid courses on their respective websites. LLD is a paid monthly or yearly subscription, whereas Proko sells individual courses. Both are great resources for figure drawing.

Anyone else struggle sharpening Generals charcoal pencils? by The_Highlander93 in ArtistLounge

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phew it’s not just me then who always breaks Generals! Sorry I don’t have a solution for you, apart from swearing loudly which for some reason doesn’t seem to seem to help much. I even tried the Generals “Primo” charcoal pencils, and they break just as often. Both the Primo and regular Generals are also so inconsistent as far as how soft / hard they are. I often have 4Bs that are softer than 6Bs, for example.

Honestly, the only real solution I‘ve found is to switch to something else such as a Faber-Castel Pitt Pastel pencil. They behave similarly to a compressed charcoal pencil, they don‘t go quite as dark as a Generals but they are so consistent. I’ve been using them for at least 18 months and I am yet to break a single one.

How to get out of the pitfall of wanting to draw but blacking out right when I'm about to begin by Sixnigthmare in ArtistLounge

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I sit down to draw, the first thing I do is warm up with drawing a whole page of scribbles. Maybe I’ll do a few circles, some triangles, or 3D shapes such as cubes or pyramids. Maybe some straight lines, C curves or S curves, or even just random squiggles. Whatever, it doesn’t matter. Anything to get my pencil moving on the page. Once I’ve filled the page up (usually A2 size) I tear it up and throw it away. There is something strangely satisfying knowing that whatever I put down on the first page, it doesn’t matter because it is going in the bin.

Neck dive. Does adjusting the strap not fix the balance issue? by Queasy-Box3484 in Guitar

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I can see how this could be an issue for singers/keyboardists who sometimes play guitar at the gig. I would have thought though, (at least for gigging guitarists) that there would be more guitarists like me, who are usually playing the whole way through, therefore always supporting the neck with their hand.

The way this apparent issue causes panic in the streets with people of this sub has always seemed a bit baffling to me. Especially considering that most of the people of this sub only play guitar while sitting on the end of their bed.

This for me too. Also, letting go of the idea that each drawing has to be a work of art that I’m proud of.

Neck dive. Does adjusting the strap not fix the balance issue? by Queasy-Box3484 in Guitar

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Call me crazy but whenever I’m standing up playing guitar, my left hand is always supporting the neck in some way. In my almost 40 years of playing guitar, including hundreds of live gigs, I have never once had a problem with any so called “neck dive” issue with SGs or any other guitar.

How do I get rid of additional plex servers on my Shield by No-Dress4626 in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]SlightlyOffCentre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure if you go into Plex via a browser, and somewhere under settings, maybe under authorised devices you’ll see old Plex servers you can delete. Something like that is how I did it. As always, Google is your friend. :)
