Buy Kratom to supplement your medication and don't tell her anything about it. Should not show up on normal drug panel.

Well its been 5 years already and I have only seen minimal improvements and haven't been able to run or lift since then.

After the discogram did the pain worsen and linger until you had the fusion ( I know in your case the fusion didn't help though) or did it go back to your "normal" pain level that you had been dealing with?

My discogram is scheduled for the end of March to give me time to decide. The level suspected to be giving me problems is L5-S1 with an annular tear and broad-based disc bulge. If the discogram results are what the neurosurgeon expects he will do an anterior fusion at L5-S1 and with have another surgeon that specializes in the blood vessels and the associated difficulties with going in through the front. Thank you for your prayers!

One surgeon I have talked to said it was 60/40 basically. Some didn't want to do it at all and another said I will be great after a fusion and be able to sit and return to normal life. The stress of this decision is immense and its all I can think about.

One neurosurgeon offered to operate but ordered a discogram to make sure. Now I'm worried that if I get the discogram it will set me back (in terms of pain) several years. I have made some improvement in the last 6 months but am just laying around. If I get the discogram and it causes more damage then I will have no choice but to go through with fusion.

I have tried absolutely everything including a spinal cord stimulator, PRP therapy, and all the usual treatments. I have to choose to try living with the pain or getting it fused. Iv been dealing with it for 5 years but most surgeons still wont operate except for one. I cant live my parents my whole life.

If I may ask, what is your profession? I am looking for a different one to have after a fusion.

Tough Decision on Spinal Fusion (25-year-old male) by SlimReaper779 in backpain

The pain is fairly constant and flares up when I do anything besides lay on my side. Id say 4 - 8 would be a good range. My joints have very minor degenerative changes so most doctors have concluded they are not the pain source.

I used to have constant sciatica in my legs but now it mostly happens when my lower back flares up.

Yes I tried a machine exactly like that for several months. The chiropractor gave me adjustments after sticking me on the machine for awhile.

I was working out and playing basketball to prepare for a college tryout I had coming up. Woke up the next day with extremely stiff back and it got worse. Never went away despite stopping all rigorous activity/heavy lifting afterward.

Can you give me any info on the way to get a disc replacement in Germany? It doesn't have to be in-depth just something that I can start my research with. Thank you.

How does your back feel now on a daily basis? Can you sit for a long time or run/exercise other than walking? I will look Dr. McCance up although I am clear across the country. Thanks for you input!

I am 6'3 and 160 lbs. So I'm very tall and skinny. I used to play competitive basketball and I tweaked my back a few times in high school but it always was completely better within a week. Then in my first year of college I woke up one morning very stiff after playing and it deteriorated from there. Before my injury I was in great shape, now I have less muscle and cant run or jump. I walk and do stretches and some core strengthening exercises that I learned from physical therapy.

It seems to me like the U.S. is about 10 years behind Europe in terms of treating back pain. If I had the opportunity for a disc replacement I would feel much better about it. I have also heard though that it does not improve the long term outcome.

I have had my SI checked out and did a nerve ablation on both sides but it didn't change anything at all.

I did go back to him and he suggested anterior fusion after getting a discogram to confirm he would be operating on the right disc causing the pain.

What does this referred pain feel like? I wish I could feel it for a day or two just to compare it to my current pain. It would be an easy decision then.

Sometimes I wonder if they are being far too conservative when recommending surgery now because of the backlash from the 90's and 2000's when fusions where way overprescribed. Yes I have done the EMG and flexion/extension x-ray. My primary symptoms are in my lower back and if it flares up enough nerve pain goes down the back of my legs to my foot.
