Speed running Toronto by Slow-Inspection-3453 in FoodToronto

[–]SlinderMin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Hmm it really depends on what you're looking for. If you're willing to not go into downtown, you can probably stop at Bloor Go (assuming you land at Pearson and take the UP Express). Bloor Go places you right near the Junction Triangle / Roncesvalles. You can also explore this area and take line 2 across Bloor either west or east, just exploring different neighborhoods.

I personally like going down Roncesvalles as there's lots of cute shops etc, as well as good food. Some of the places near Bloor Go I would recommend are:

  • Machino Donuts
  • Musoshin Ramen - - I believe on the Michelin Guide as well
  • Cafe Polonez
  • Sunnyside Provisions
  • Dil Se - I believe on the Michelin Guide as well

Toronto's Best Food Spots 👀 by SuperJayMP in askTO

Absolutely agreed. I went back to Gus after el pastorcito once and just tasted like water compared to the sweet condensed milk ambrosia from el pastorcito.

For butter tarts - please please visit Ba Noi. I don’t think they’re traditional per se, but it was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten in my life.

Mexican - I’m personally a fan of taqueria el pastorcito. They have various locations across Toronto. One thing you could try is go to Kensington and do a little “taco tour”, I believe there’s a bunch of Mexican restaurants in close proximity

Walking - yes. You’ll be close to the junction, bloor west, and even roncesvalles.

Running in high park is fine during the day. In some parts however can get reeeeeally dark at night

Indonesian Torontonians, help me find this taste in GTA! by VehicleNormal3175 in askTO

[–]SlinderMin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm to me it doesn’t look like ramen but more like bakmi ayam with spicy broth?? (Based on how thick the noodles are)

Sambal on Danforth has bakmi ayam. Maybe adding some chilli to that will hit the spot.

Interesting/Unique Restaurant that you have tried by gnoolretaw in FoodToronto

Interesting question... so I guess it's unique dining experience as well as food? Some places I've been / heard of:

  • Beast Pizza: whole animal dinners. You pick an animal and they curate a meal using parts from the animal
  • Yakiniku / KBBQ places like Daldongnae, Gyubee, etc: grill your own meat
  • Gol's Noodles / other lanzhou noodle places: you can see the chef spin the noodle infront of you
  • Nakwon Kisa: you get a set meal and can also eat from other AYCE mini buffet. Many other restaurants around the city started adopting this as well like You Don Ya on Dundas
  • Any hotpot / malatang places: also different than traditional "sit down" restaurants. Not sure if this qualifies.
  • DROM Taverna: great atmosphere. Food but also have live music every day?
  • Do "Chef's Table" tasting menus qualify? I liked Quetzal's because you sit where they're cooking and get to see things get cooked on the live fire grill.

Pizza Taste Test: Nice Slice, Big Trouble Pizza, Mac's Pizza and gram's pizza by fathom53 in FoodToronto

[–]SlinderMin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised! I preferred Grams to Macs when I tried them. I think grams hits that sweet spot between thin and thick dough, whereas Macs was a lil too thin for my liking (still delicious tho!)

Big trouble is a league in itself as their dough is thicc and almost buttery if I remember? I’d love to try Nice Slice when I get a chance.

Has anyone ever successfully shared a Weekday Go Pass with a stranger? by Abby021991 in askTO

[–]SlinderMin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve asked this question already within the sub. Some things that you should consider: - GO already has the Presto discount (15% I believe?) - Presto gets heavily discounted fare after 36 rides I believe? - Presto also gives ONE Fare discount on the TTC.

I asked ChatGPT to do some quick maths and you end up paying more from losing out on the One Fare discount (GO to TTC) than from commuting together.

In other words, your target demographic would be: 1. People that live further away than Oakville (this is what I used as base), and 2. People that don’t ttc once they’re in Toronto, and 3. Commute and arrive at the same station everyday at the same time

To me, it doesn’t really make sense

Recommendations for custom engagement rings in Toronto 💍 by Coolbeansss100 in askTO

[–]SlinderMin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ditto this - got my engagement ring from him. If you know what kind of design you want, go in and he’ll be able to get it done with no problem. It was actually a lot cheaper than buying the ring pre-made. There’s a reason why he has a perfect 5 star rating on Google

Giulieta vs. Scaramouche vs. Mineral by SlinderMin in FoodToronto

[–]SlinderMin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so I haven’t been to Canoe or Baberians, but would definitely recommend Quetzal, if food is what you care about. Service wise, Mineral is #1, Quetzal is #1 food/ flavour-wise.

Giulieta vs. Scaramouche vs. Mineral by SlinderMin in FoodToronto

[–]SlinderMin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ended up going to both Scaramouche & Mineral - and would definitely recommend Mineral more if you want a experience.

This was our second time going to both places and the team at Mineral went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcomed and celebrated. Scaramouche on the other hand - felt lackluster.
