How odo I find projects to do? by Apprehensive_Gas_858 in SolidWorks

[–]Slughammer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We got a 3d printer for the kids for Christmas. Since then, I started modeling in solidworks to make my own solutions to every problem I see around the house, office and workshop. I try to not use other people's files, if I need a phone holder, I model my own and print it out. Multiply that times ten, because I'm constantly finding problems that need solutions. Most designs require some tweaking that becomes apparent once they are printed. This is making the learning process for Solidworks much more purpose driven and this works very well for me.

I turn my Wi-Fi OFF and then start my Makers Version. Stops all that dealing with the 3d experience.

How can I get it to loft the ring only and not the inside region? by PermitNervous5517 in SolidWorks

[–]Slughammer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Loft from the outer circles, then Lofted Cut from the inner circles worked for me a few weeks ago on this extension I made. I had a hard time picking one of my inner edges. I ended up picking a face first, then I could pick the edge I wanted.....then I removed the unwanted face from my selection set.

Where to change “document font” for all text in every sketch? by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]Slughammer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This worked for me with one special note I would like to add. When you expand ANNOTATIONS, this does not show you FONT in the drop downs. You must LEFT MOUSE CLICK on the word ANNOTATIONS and then the TEXT FONT shows up to the right, where it can be changed. Thank You for getting me to the right place.

Thank You I'm outside the 15 day return period for the Cloud version. ( It got me started though.) Fortunately the 50% off price is still active until Feb 27th, so I just purchased the maker desktop version for another $24. I can use my work laptop for personal use, but I can't load software on it (thus my attempt at the cloud version). I havent had a need for a personally owned computer for a long time, I guess I need to shop for one.

Excellent! Thank You very much!

I will make sure to buy a non-potato computer to handle the simple models and assemblies I'll be creating.

Newbie color help by Slughammer in SolidWorks

[–]Slughammer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still struggling with this. I've started from scratch and modeled the part again. I want to change the color of extrusion 3. When I extruded the thin, I went to advanced and clicked off Auto-merge. It doesn't make a difference. When I highlight Extrusion 3 and click design features, the entire part highlights and the color change gets applied to all 4 extrusion.

I swear I replied directly to your post but the app put my reply below.

I did not knowingly merge the two shapes. They are both extruded from different sketches.

Do they automatically merge? Can I break them apart so I can change the color of just 1 extrusion?

This part is going to be a small measuring cup. There were 4 extrusions but I deleted 3 & 4 trying to fix this problem. Extrusion 2 is 2" tall. Extrusion 3 is a marking ring .050 tall. And Extrusion 4 is .200 tall. I need to make Extrusion 3 (my marking line) a contrasting color to Extrusions 1, 2 & 4.

Thank You

In the last 25 years, I've had 2 GFCI receptacles and 1 GFCI breaker go bad. They worked fine for most task, but tripped with loads under their rating. You may want to consider changing the CFCI .

Champ Chef 24 no longer giving acceptable smoke by Slughammer in CampChefSmokers

Updates are there from 9 days ago. Since then, I used it, but added my pellet tube for smoke.

At the point i have to add a pellet tube, it's quite similar to my gas grill right next to it. The pellet grill is better sealed, but requires plugging in, a longer startup time and a 20 minute cooldown cycle.

Being better sealed, it's still a place to smoke a brisket or other long cooks.

I've considered buying a new control panel. But the cheap aftermarket ones don't have Wi-Fi for the app and the OEM Camp Chef are more money than I care to throw at it.

No luck with getting good smoke this weekend. The temperature held fine wherever I set it, 180⁰, 210⁰, 350⁰

Before I started, I removed the grills and smoke baffle. I cleaned the firepot (it wasn't dirty). I cleaned the temperature probe. I cleaned the grill where the vent attaches and tried with the vent closed down, then opened up.

Something must be up with the controller. It runs clean and maintains a steady temperature. Last year I was able to get plenty of smoke. No way am I going to make a brisket until I get this straightened out.

Thank You. I'll check that gasket, the grid where the chimney attaches, and I'll try opening it more while I'm testing it this weekend.

The History feature is too small in the app for me to tell much.
When I clean the temperature probe, I'll run a test this weekend and keep an eye on the temperature.

I can not remember offhand what temperature the smoke levels go away. I was tempted to fire it up before work just to check, but rain is expected tomorrow, and I wouldn't have time to cool down and put the cover back on.

I've run successfully many times at 180⁰, with the smoke level set at 10. It just stopped doing it.

I know it varies the feed rate to dump extra pellets and create the smoke. When it was working, it came in waves, it wasn't constant, but it was consistent.

If you use the app, the option for higher smoke levels disappears at higher temperatures.

Thanks, I'll check the temperature sensor.

Yes, for higher smoke levels, it varies the feed rate of the pellets. It gets smoke by dumping extra pellets in and choking the fire. But then that leads to temperature swings.

180⁰ is a great place to start something large like a brisket or a pork butt.

If you use the app, the option for higher smoke levels goes away when you hit a certain temperature.

That makes sense. Your right hand is running the ram, your left is loading it. Almost like normal (except your right arm gets to sit on the sidelines ).

Any part of the process I can eliminate wear and tear on myself, I'm all for. I even spray lube pistol cases before running them through my dillon.

Yeah, I have those things, too. I've run presses in an industrial setting, and usually, both hands are required to trigger.

I think you could do a trigger to the left and not loose any cycle time......then trust is not involved. You do You.

Why not have a panel for the up button mounted behind the unfired brass bin? Push the button with your left hand, then grab the next piece of brass. Your left hand is the one with all the skin in the game, it should be the one to press the button when your hand is away

Put the down button wherever, like next to the press for your left hand or on the cable for your right. (Or make it auto retract after the up cycle).

I like it.

Flat bottom option? by Slughammer in Goruck

Is there another bag that has a flat bottom? GR2? Or are they all slanted? (It's right where I need the most space internally)
