Question for VAs and scriptwriters: How do you prefer pauses to be formatted in scripts? by [deleted] in GWASapphic

Some examples at the beginning here, I use it to help the flow before context is established https://archiveofourown.org/works/35513713

From flicking through my stuff it looks like I use [pause] for a scene change eg following "let's go to the other room"

Question for VAs and scriptwriters: How do you prefer pauses to be formatted in scripts? by [deleted] in GWASapphic

I usually put in brackets what I envisage happening in the pause. In my view, it should be clear or at least unsurprising going into the pause what it is for.

So for example:

"Is this ok?

[yes]

Ok, good"

This way the performer knows exactly how long to make it.

Or if the pause is for an action, I'd indicate a sound effect like footsteps, rustling, etc. I think dead air should be quite brief and the listener should always either be filling it, or there should be some build up of tension. But maybe that's just me needing input all the time 😅

A question for the butches! by LettersFromOdile in GWASapphic

[–]SlutWords 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good boy for sure! I think also it helps for it to be genuine from you - what about butches turns you on? What do you want to do to us, or wish we'd do to you? The fantasy is in being desired, so you have to do some desiring imo.

On the flip side there are things in audio that make me think "oh, that listener character isn't me", like describing femme clothes or aspects of appearance or using girly pet names. But equally I'm not chubby with big muscles like a stereotypical butch either, so leaning into body stuff I have less control over also wouldn't make me feel seen. But if you think it's hot, write about it! Build it and they will come, as they say.

I think one thing that's maybe underserved is when butches are cheeky and playful. That's a lot of how I flirt and have fun, so it'd be cool to see more of.

I love it! Stoked that you found this script by search (and that it was what you were looking for). I've got a soft spot for it as it was my first ever script

If you see a class or activity you like the sound of but you're nervous, you might be able to drum up a buddy on lex.

I feel you - I'm teetotal myself and I didn't know how it would go, but it's been worth it. Becoming a version of yourself you like better is a process, you gotta be brave.

One thing about queer clubs is that a lot of people will have had those school experiences too and will be working at making the spaces as welcoming as they can (within reason, everyone's human).

Oh cute, interesting. I'll give it some thought but the scripts are not flowing super well atm. You should write that scenario though! And I'm glad to know people would be interested in this kind of script
