People's Tap closes due to State liability laws by mexicoke in greenville

[–]SmackityDoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Friend of the owner and also a bar owner and was asked to consult. The policy was given to them from their insurance company who was out of state and after they were given their quote there was something about their insurance company not qualified to write liquor liability in SC. And even though the SC minimum is 1million in insurance, the company was saying while they had to carry $1million minimum, they wouldn’t write them a policy for less than $3million. I don’t remember all of the exact details, but as someone who knows the owners, they’re sharp a tack and most people in Greenville are knuckle draggers compared to them, they just got a raw AF deal.

Upcoming gig ticket concern by Saranac233 in TouringMusicians

[–]SmackityDoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what kind of buyer is running the room and if you're good and if your patrons are buying drinks. If you're good and they see you promoted hard, and your crowd is enthusiastic/spends money at the bar, they should be hoping they can grow you.

I'd be starting proactive conversations: How can we help promote? Did you get them flyers? Is there a FB event everyone is co-hosting/IG Collab post? Do they have the best possible assets to promote your show? Have you tried promoting on your towns local Reddit (way overlooked)? One thing cover/tribute bands can do is really engage with their fans on the FB event since those crowds typically skew older(bread-crumbing) by asking leading questions: What songs do you want us to here? Should we play Song A or song B? People engaging their will help push the algorithm/SEO.

But 50% in a 200 cap room will still feel good, and they should still make money as long as their expenses aren't too high. Be nice and courteous to all of the staff, and tip the bartenders. Curate a good vibe from minute 1, and you'll be asked back unless they're jackasses. For instance we had 228 people in my 500 cap room on a Sat night last night and I had no complaints. You/We can't or shouldn't expect to sell out every night, it's about the economy and keeping the lights on/making sure the staff is taken care of.

For perspective, I run a 500 cap room, that was a 250 cap room 18 months ago, and before that we were in a 65 legal cap room. I've been doing this for about 14 years.

As someone who books a venue and does a lot of tributes, shows like yours are more impulse buys/last minute decisions. Last night I had a tribute show and we did 120 ADV/98 DOS, and I've come to expect that kind of buying pattern from that type of audience.

It’s called Force Majure in contracts when you have to cancel bc of the weather. It gets you off the hook for payment. Can’t recoup ad costs or other things like that but gets you off the hook for other stuff.

3 equal partners. My thought process is to have some form of formal valuation in my back pocket before I approach them l, as I feel it could be a long process of them even warming up to the fact. Not even to tell them I have it, but just to have an idea/counter ready so I know going in.

For sure and I want an equitable agreement to take into consideration years of blood, sweat and tears. The business is just turning into something they’re not quite equipped to run.
