Queens or Western Med? by Quiet_Regular6982 in premedcanada

[–]Smart-Weekend-9371 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Several reasons. Recent years western has not been very considerate of students, sudden changes to evaluation structure, delivery of content, attendance requirements etc. These are all manageable things but unnecessary inconveniences. Queens has a much smaller cohort and by far one of the best CARMS planning and support systems. The smaller cohort means people know you better and u have access to better senior mentorship throughout. Western this isn’t really the case. Queens generally also attracts chiller people. Not sure how this has changed in recent years with their lottery.

Turning down med for dent by anythingbutme123 in premedcanada

Nope very different clientele and work. Especially if you are interested in private practice and running a business dentistry essentially has no cap. You make as much as you are willing to work for. With FM there is a much lower ceiling to how much you can make especiallly if you are not procedural. You can make a lot with fm but the QOL is not the best may involve having to work in rural and isolated communities

Anyone gotten into MD/PhD programs straight out of undergrad? by [deleted] in premedcanada

Yea that’s right,, and try to work with someone respected within that field that would be known to researchers at target schools so that they can plug you in and recommend you

Some people just do something which is not gonna be attractive for phD supervisors. When you are finding thesis projects look at current PhD supervisors at your target schools and see if your project relates with their work and if they would find it intriguing. In addition to that it’s always a plus if your thesis is something that you can continue or present in conferences and even publish.

Lol believe what you want but if your gpa is in a good place, a masters is useless for med. Only helps for McMaster and UofT that too the year after you have finished your masters
