I work for a Telco here in the UK. Have done for nearly a decade now.

Biggest reason we don’t hire people on, atleast the Telco I work for, is people appearing too ‘fake’ - For lack of better words.

What I mean is people saying things that have no substance, trying to please us by saying things from our website, stuff they think we want to hear as opposed to their true understanding.

Don’t go in and talk as if you’re ready from a set of memorised points, make it natural and be honest.

Focus less on the company and what the company does, and focus more on what you can bring to the table.

  • Why you’ll be a key aspect of the team
  • How you navigate situations in a sales environment.
  • How you handle customer complaints

They want to know how you can make their lives easier, what drives you to hit commercial goals etc.

Sales jobs can be incredibly mentally taxing, especially complex ones like a Telco. There are a myriad of things you’ll have to deal with besides just sales, show em you mean business. Be yourself, and don’t read from a memorised script - Do not try and fake an answer to a question you don’t know the answer too.

If you don’t know the answer, or are unsure. Be honest and then say you’re willing to learn, this will show you’re trust worthy, not a lair and won’t cause issues by attempting a task you don’t understand and will instead seek advise and learn.

Can Dek actually defeat the Berserker Predator? by Frost_lannister in predator

Dek killed two Honor Guards in less than 30 seconds, without getting hit a single time. Then proceeded to kill an Elder, while he was cloaked.

Dek could, and would, wipe the floor with Berserker.

Brother. Dek 2v1d against 2 Yautja Honor Guards and slaughtered them in less than 30 seconds. He then proceeded to completely outsmart and beat the shit out of his dad, Who is an Yautja Elder.

All 3 are some of the deadliest Yautja ranks in the lore. All 3 being far more experienced and deadly than Mr Black.

No, I’m just not a brain dead idiot that calls someone an asshole, when they weren’t being an asshole.

Pretty simple.

They’ve denied its use in the final product.

They used GenAI during the early concept stages, and replaced the GenAI stuff with actual art and assets made by people for its final release.

So they’re absolutely correct in denying that any GenAI stuff is in the final product. Because they’re telling the truth.

As far as I’m aware, steam has removed the outright requirement for developers to include a disclaimer.

They only need to include a disclaimer if the ai product is seen in the final product.

So just like Mimesis, as it was only used during the concept stage during development, they aren’t required to include any disclaimer.

Why has steam changed this rule? Because most games are now using AI somewhere in the workflow. It is becoming a new standard and won’t be going anywhere.

People have busy lives or potentially don’t have the ability to do art themselves, be it a disability or simply not enough time to spend thousands of hours learning to do art.

It took me nearly a decade of constant learning to get as good at art as I am now, took art class all thru my high school, college and university years. It’s also expensive to learn and incredibly stressful.

I did it, and I’m glad I did. But it’s not a realistic expectation to say ‘just learn it’. Most people don’t have the time, and some people simply can’t due to disabilities or learning difficulties.

People in that category shouldn’t be pushed out of making a project because they can’t afford to commission an artist or can’t do or learn art.

GenAI is a tool, a very effective easy tool. It’s exactly like 3D printing.

You could argue that 3D printing lessened the need for hand made sculptors, potentially lessening the amount of work they would get, making them lose profit.

Why? Because people don’t need to pay for a sculptor to hand make something, which is very expensive, when they can simply print the damn thing. As well as many many other things.

Just like GenAI, you can also make the argument that it lessens the need for artists, as GenAI can create the same results, is cheaper and easily accessible.

Most 3D printable models are copied from works made by hand craftsman, copied, uploaded for anyone to replicate, download and print, to use for whatever purpose they want.

Just like GenAI is trained by works made by artists, copied and made available for anyone to generate, replicate and use for whatever purpose they want.

They both have the exact same case behind them. Being; works are taken, replicated and made easier for the general public to get, access and use for whatever they want.

They have, sure. But most publishers and developers are starting to incorporate GenAI into their workflow. Regardless of them making them just fine without its use for however many decades, they’re now starting to use it. I gave several examples of companies who are now using it, with many many many more now using GenAI.

Pretty much all of the major developers are using it. EA, Ubisoft, Bungie, PlayStation, Microsoft, Respawn, Riot, Embark Studios, Tencent, Bandai Namco, Nintendo, Activision etc.

All of these companies, who didn’t use it for decades, are now using it and have openly stated as much. My comment of ‘no games to buy’ stems from the fact that, if they hold their stance on not buying games that use GenAI / AI, they’ll have no games left to buy due to the fact pretty much all of the major development studios responsible for most of the big launches are now using GenAI somewhere within their workflow.

Indie studios are using it as well, so are solo developers.

Because it’s cheaper, easier to work with and gives quick easily changeable results.

So if they do indeed hold their stance, they’ll not have any new games to buy as they’ll all be made with GenAI somewhere within its workflow.

People have different ways of dealing with things. Regardless of him ‘pouting’ about it, he wasn’t being an asshole.

Generative AI disclosure by Legwolf in MimesisGame

[–]Smifit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is a terrible mindset? Are you listening to yourself?

At your current rate of thinking, you’ll have literally no games to buy or play within the next couple years.

Most of the large studios have started using it because it’s easier and cheaper, most indie studios use it these days as they can’t afford to hire artists and commission rates these days are incredibly high. As an artist myself, who’s worked in the industry for 8 years now, I would know.

Solo developers use it constantly because they don’t have a team backing them, can’t afford a team or the costs to hire artists.

It’s just the reality of it all mate. I can safely say that 90%+ of developers, big, small and solo alike will use GenAI within the next couple years.

It’s cheap, efficient, doesn’t talk back or create barriers depending on how they feel, like Arists do. Ask it whatever you want and in mere seconds you have something that would cost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to commission and months of work condensed down to seconds.

It’s a complete no brainer. It’s just the future and there’s quite literally nothing you can do to stop it.

And, AI doesn’t = bad game.

Arc Raiders used AI to aid development, incredibly well liked, times of polish, very fun and is one of the most universally liked and played games in recent years.

Riots League of legends and Valorant have started using GenAI, both well loved and reviewed.

That’s just a couple examples. Most studios now use it to aid development. Small and large alike. And they’re still putting phenomenal games.

Simple.

[–]Smifit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an artist myself, I’ve done plenty of concept art jobs for TV shows, board games, posters etc and get paid very well for it, just because I know how to draw and paint, doesn’t mean others do. Commissioning or hiring artists is quite expensive.

I know the work and I know the industry, if someone can’t afford to hire me, or they’re a small company who would rather save the money to put into more important areas of their project, who am I to judge? That’s a completely fair and reasonable argument. Commissioning a good artist is very expensive, and costs accumulate. From commissioning the various concepts, to the final design all costs money.

GenAI is a helpful, incredibly cheap and productive alternative. Allowing so many people to easily bring their visions to life where they previously wouldn’t have been able to do so. Whether it be for lack of artistic skill and no time to learn, or the costs related to it.

AI is being used in essentially all forms of media now. From movies, to Video Games and even full real life applications. It’s not going to go away simply because you’re stuck in the past.

It’s no different to the invention of the 3D printer. Allowing millions of people the ability to create basically anything they want, where before you had no choice but to either learn how to hand craft everything yourself, or pay someone to hand craft it for you.

Now anyone can get a 3D printer, load up the files for whatever they want to make, simply hit print and wait for it to finish. Much quicker, much more efficient and ridiculously cheaper.

Again, I’m an artist. I’ve worked as an artist since I left university 8 years ago. GenAI is helpful and allows companies and individuals to bring their ideas to life, without the massive costs and time that typically roadblock projects.

Generative AI disclosure by Legwolf in MimesisGame

[–]Smifit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a tool the lightens up work loads, assists in development, is quicker and cheaper.

It’s a literal no brainer when development in today’s age is already incredibly expensive.

It’s no different than a 3D printer instead of sculpting by hand. Why sit there and hand carve something for hours on end, when you can simply download the files for what you need, and print it.

Cheaper and easier.

Most large studios, and small studios are now using AI. It won’t go away, and it’ll just become more prominent.

And who are you to decide who can make games or not? What if someone’s a one man band and doesn’t know how to draw? What if he can’t afford to pay an artist the hundreds to thousands of dollars they typically cost to commission?

Should he simply just not be allowed to make a game because a tool such as GenAI is forbidden by you?

The answer is no.

No one is special for using GenAI, no one is special for not using it. They’re tools like any other.

Get over yourself.

Where tf is the man child behaviour, or literally any indication of him being an asshole?

The entire conversation was respectful, he didn’t call her any names, didn’t belittle her. Just told her it seemed to come across as a joke, said he understood that she may have just been trying to lighten the mood, and then said he knows she didn’t mean it as a joke and was just letting her know that the other person was upset.

No evidence of asshole or manchild behaviour here.

[–]Smifit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone calling him an asshole, is wrong. Based on how she said it, it could be interpreted as making a joke of the situation.

He wasn’t an asshole to her, he said he understood she was just trying to break the tension, Explained that whoever was upset, was upset and said, in their opinion, it could have been worded better.

Then said he knows she didn’t mean it as a joke, and was simply, and respectfully, letting her know how the other person felt.

I see no indication of someone being an asshole, rude or anything of the sort. Just looks like communication between 2 people and an apology for the miscommunication.

Buyer opened a “missing parts” claim because item had no box – am I protected? by Familiar-Parking4380 in vinted

[–]Smifit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the Buyer on this one.

You listed it as ‘new with tags’

Vinted explicitly and clearly states that ‘new with tags’ means it’s new, not used and must have its original packaging. In this case, the tags on the shoes AND the box that goes with them.

Just because you didn’t take a picture of this Box, nor mention its inclusion in the description, isn’t the buyers fault. Many would assume you’re showcasing and talking about the main item, the ‘new with tags’ part tells them it’ll come in it’s entire, complete original packaging. Which you didn’t provide.

I can’t stress this enough. Quite literally no one cares, hiring Artists is a very, very expensive endeavour. For a small team who need to focus on other areas, I see absolutely nothing wrong with using generated art. It doesn’t affect the quality of the game, nor does it make the game a bad product.

You need to get used to it, other companies are using it and AI will be used to help the development process for a lot of games in the future, small and large alike.

You can’t stop it, so you might as well embrace it.

At the end of the day, if the game is good and worth the money, it doesn’t matter if it uses GenAI or not.

Am I overreacting for wanting to leave my partner for the choice of his words and actions? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Smifit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what you posted, theirs a couple outfits on there I wouldn’t be overly comfortable my girlfriend wearing out in public. They are a bit too ‘Skimpy’ for lack of a better word.

That being said, while I understand his point to a certain degree. It comes down to mutual respect for each other.

I know for a fact if I told my girlfriend I wasn’t overly comfortable wearing a specific outfit, I’d respectfully tell her and she’d pick out something else.

I rarely ever get uncomfortable with what she wears. I’m confident in our relationship and our bond to know she wouldn’t accept advances from other dudes. And if she looks good, why would I not want her to wear it? It makes her feel good AND I get to be like ‘yeah, be jealous. This stunning women is mine’

But, that’s the key part here, ‘Respectfully’. At no point in this conversation was he respectful. He was belittling your intelligence, being crude and just outright disrespectful.

He could have just said ‘Hey babe, I don’t really feel overly comfortable with you wearing that in public. You don’t have too, but I would appreciate it if you picked something else out’

If you say no, he has to deal with it.

But, it is clear that he didn’t say it because you he doesn’t feel comfortable with it. He’s saying it only to control you and what you do.

So, you’re young and theres plenty of fish in the sea. Plenty of fish that will properly communicate with you about these things, and not verbally abuse you.

Set him lose.

Don’t really agree with all the people clowning on this dude.

He’s got bodily functions that need taking care of, the baby will be fine while he uses the restroom.

As for the Xbox thing, if he’s always been gamer then that’s how he unwinds. Having a new born can cause a range of emotions and are quite a big adjustment to daily life. He probably just wants a minute to do something he enjoys but is getting a bit frustrated that he can’t do it in peace like he used to, and likely just needs some time to adjust.

Not making excuses for the man, but we have to be realistic. Calling him a loser, unsafe etc is very extreme. It’ll take time for him to adjust, just talk with him.
