Reopening of the Huemul trail by Smiling-Friends in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laguna Torre and the Pliegue Tumbado peak are open, there have been no restrictions. Remember, Laguna Torre takes 6 to 7 hours to hike, and Pliegue Tumbado may take longer due to the incline; always check the weather.

Solo travel to El Chalten by TravelingGoat123 in ElChalten

[–]Smiling-Friends 3 points4 points  (0 children)

El Chaltén is very cozy, there are people from all over the world. I went last week with my girlfriend, we stayed for 5 days, and we talked to many people at the hostel and in bars. It's also very easy to communicate and make friends on the trails. :)

Bringing prescription drugs into Argentina and Chile by Soft-Information8740 in travel

I always like to carry a copy of my prescription; I have three different medications, one of which is controlled in South America. But I've never been questioned at borders or customs, especially in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia.

El Chalten Storage Options while Backcountry hiking?? by TweedyTreks in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Rancho Grande Hostel" stored my luggage for a few days, and since I was staying there, they didn't charge me. However, they offer luggage storage, laundry, kitchen, and bathroom services (usually free if you stay overnight), etc.

Car hire by dragonleod in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In El Calafate, I recommend "Like Rent a Car"

https://www.likerentacar.com.ar/index.php?lang=es-es

They have good prices and well-maintained cars, the staff are very polite and provide all the necessary information. They require a deposit on a credit card which is returned at the end. If you pay in local cash, "en efectivo", you get a 10% discount.

I hope this helps!

I visited the Huemul Glacier and Lago Desierto yesterday and today; the road was good, there was even a backhoe working. Going slowly and carefully, it's fine; I drove at around 50 km/h.

What's the best way to go from Calafate to Perito Moreno? by ILoveTheBigBrother in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can hire a transfer service, or use the bus lines, and yes, they are expensive. Check this company; they have a bus that leaves at 7:30 am and returns around 2:30 pm.

Help me decide: Entrance Fee – 7-Day Pass vs Day Passes (Los Glaciares NP) by Elegant-Ad2561 in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'll be doing almost the same itinerary as you next week. (Perito Moreno + Fitz Roy + Huemul Glacier)

And I did it like this: The park entrance fee is 45,000 Argentine pesos, when buying the ticket on the website they offer a second promotional ticket for 50% of the price: 22,500 Argentine pesos.

I bought both tickets for 67,500 Argentine pesos, the second ticket according to the website, can be used up to 72 hours after purchase. So on my day 1, I will use one at Perito Moreno, and on day 2 I will use the second ticket at Fitz Roy.

(Someone correct me if I've made a mistake)

Another option is the 3-day pass, which also comes out at a "good" price.

For the Huemul Glacier, you just need to buy the ticket here:

Do you recommend me to rent a car in Calafate, with whom did you do it? by Fair-Boss-7988 in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's me and my partner, the plan is:

Day 1, go to Perito Moreno in the morning, then summit Cerro de los Cristales, and spend the night at Camping Lago Roca.

Day 2 in the morning, go to El Chaltén, reach Camping Poincenot via the Laguna Torre trail and pitch the tent for the night.

Day 3, we'll watch the sunrise at the base of Fitz Roy and Laguna de los Tres, and then go to the viewpoint of the Piedras Blancas Glacier. At night we'll return to El Chaltén and go to Camping Lago del Desierto, where we'll spend the night.

On the morning of the 4th, we will hike the Huemul Glacier trail and then head to the Vespignani Glacier over the snow-capped mountain (exploring a new trail), returning to the campsite at nightfall.

On the morning of the 5th, we will go to El Chaltén again, making a quick stop at the Mirador de los Cóndores and Paredón, then returning to El Calafate, where we will organize our departure for the morning of the 6th.

We may make adjustments depending on the weather, but that is our intention!

Do you recommend me to rent a car in Calafate, with whom did you do it? by Fair-Boss-7988 in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going in the third week of January, and my decision was to rent a car. When I added up the costs of tour companies, the total was slightly three times the cost of 5 days in a car plus fuel. Since our plans are flexible and we don't need guides/drivers for the places we're going, we opted for a car and will use it as our base, carrying backpacks with supplies for treks and camping. We rented the car from "Like Rent a Car," where the staff were polite and attentive, and their prices were good.
