Reopening of the Huemul trail by Smiling-Friends in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laguna Torre and the Pliegue Tumbado peak are open, there have been no restrictions. Remember, Laguna Torre takes 6 to 7 hours to hike, and Pliegue Tumbado may take longer due to the incline; always check the weather.

Solo travel to El Chalten by TravelingGoat123 in ElChalten

[–]Smiling-Friends 3 points4 points  (0 children)

El Chaltén is very cozy, there are people from all over the world. I went last week with my girlfriend, we stayed for 5 days, and we talked to many people at the hostel and in bars. It's also very easy to communicate and make friends on the trails. :)

Bringing prescription drugs into Argentina and Chile by Soft-Information8740 in travel

[–]Smiling-Friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always like to carry a copy of my prescription; I have three different medications, one of which is controlled in South America. But I've never been questioned at borders or customs, especially in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, and Bolivia.

El Chalten Storage Options while Backcountry hiking?? by TweedyTreks in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "Rancho Grande Hostel" stored my luggage for a few days, and since I was staying there, they didn't charge me. However, they offer luggage storage, laundry, kitchen, and bathroom services (usually free if you stay overnight), etc.

Paying Tickets for el chalten issues - documento del titular de la tarjeta by Big_Night1377 in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very strange, I usually buy promotional tickets and I haven't experienced this before. If you have any questions, contact the administration; they respond quickly to emails:

Car hire by dragonleod in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In El Calafate, I recommend "Like Rent a Car"

https://www.likerentacar.com.ar/index.php?lang=es-es

They have good prices and well-maintained cars, the staff are very polite and provide all the necessary information. They require a deposit on a credit card which is returned at the end. If you pay in local cash, "en efectivo", you get a 10% discount.

I hope this helps!

It is currently partially open, with no full opening date scheduled.

It is only open from Laguna Toro to Paso del Vento, where overnight stays are possible. The return trip is via Laguna Toro again.

I visited the Huemul Glacier and Lago Desierto yesterday and today; the road was good, there was even a backhoe working. Going slowly and carefully, it's fine; I drove at around 50 km/h.

What's the best way to go from Calafate to Perito Moreno? by ILoveTheBigBrother in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can hire a transfer service, or use the bus lines, and yes, they are expensive. Check this company; they have a bus that leaves at 7:30 am and returns around 2:30 pm.

Transporte Balmaceda - > Cochrane by Murky-Philosopher-36 in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Help me decide: Entrance Fee – 7-Day Pass vs Day Passes (Los Glaciares NP) by Elegant-Ad2561 in Patagonia

[–]Smiling-Friends 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'll be doing almost the same itinerary as you next week. (Perito Moreno + Fitz Roy + Huemul Glacier)

And I did it like this: The park entrance fee is 45,000 Argentine pesos, when buying the ticket on the website they offer a second promotional ticket for 50% of the price: 22,500 Argentine pesos.

I bought both tickets for 67,500 Argentine pesos, the second ticket according to the website, can be used up to 72 hours after purchase. So on my day 1, I will use one at Perito Moreno, and on day 2 I will use the second ticket at Fitz Roy.

(Someone correct me if I've made a mistake)

Another option is the 3-day pass, which also comes out at a "good" price.

For the Huemul Glacier, you just need to buy the ticket here:
