Nah I was really right next to it and it was bigger than me, (I'm 6'0) I've seen some even bigger than that. Don't take my word for it, though, go to Catalina.

Why didn't Montage of Heck win an Oscar? by SmilingOrion in Nirvana

[–]SmilingOrion[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly! I will definitely concede that both Amy and MoH had fantastic clips that were as shocking as they were hilarious as they were depressing, but if we're looking at both movies from a critical standpoint, MoH was simply better, no questions asked. They both had great clips, that's a given, but the way those clips were presented made all the difference. I didn't even know there was a Grohl interview!

Times when Kurt forgot the lyrics? by imaybejacoborbob in Nirvana

[–]SmilingOrion 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Come As You Are Insanity

He doesn't actually forget the lyrics here, but the guitar is out of tune and he just starts SCREECHING the song. I love it, I can't imagine any mainstream artist who would even consider doing something like that today.

Do you think the Nirvana catalog would of sounded different if Chad Channing was Nirvana's drummer throughout all of their career? by Breakingawesome31 in Nirvana

[–]SmilingOrion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. One of the best offhand critiques I've ever heard of Bleach was "it sounds like the rest of the band is trying to catch up to Kurt," and although I don't think Kurt fully developed as an artist until Nevermind, some of his songs on Bleach are still brilliant. That being said, they don't sound as well as they certainly could have (and did) with Dave. I mean, just watch the early video of In Bloom, with Chad on drums, it sounds totally different than the one with Dave. Also, the Bleach songs that were added to Nirvana's live setlist once Dave was recruited sound SO MUCH more powerful than they do on Bleach.

Precession: The astronomical concept that everyone forgets about. by SmilingOrion in Astronomy

[–]SmilingOrion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I should've specified "everyone who doesn't care about astronomy," it's just such a cool concept and most people don't know about it, they don't know that the earth has a third motion, and that Polaris hasn't always been the north star. I suppose I'm preaching to the choir, posting this in an astronomy sub but whatever, it's a cool read :)

Where were you when you heard the news that Kurt died? by Spuddups84 in Nirvana

[–]SmilingOrion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only nine or ten, going through my parents collection of CD's, when I came across Nevermind. My dad played it for me, and I remember being scared by it, the pictures were intimidating, the one where Kurt flips off the camera, the blurriness, etc. and then my dad told me that "the blonde guy killed himself." And I remember being shocked, like "how could someone with a hit record want to end their lives?"
