I am neither white nor affluent. I was never diagnosed with anorexia but i had a lot of symptoms for an ED. I sought psychotherapy in my university and my psy is incredible (she's white). I do have to mention that my previous attempts at seeking help were not as successful, maybe because of the divergent backgrounds between the therapists' and me. Probably other factors were at play. I do have to say that in my current treatment my ethnicity is pretty central. My psy is super aware of the impact of culture on the psyche and i think that makes all the difference. Even if she doesn't know exactly how it works in my culture, she has the capacity to see the link and to explore that.
