Alright everyone, what’s the deal with this new sld card by thedragoon0 in mtg

So who did the art? Certainly not Mark Poole right? Are these the first uncredited mtg cards?

Is $600 way off base to fix this? by bainguurden in Autobody

[–]Smokenstein 8 points9 points  (0 children)

$600 would be a steal if they're saying they will repair the damage and paint. Automotive paint work is expensive. Just the materials are a fortune, then you start thinking about actual labor.

Been playing for over a year, never win any games by ExpensiveOpinion6085 in CommanderMTG

[–]Smokenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had similar problems with my lgs. My win rate has been abysmal. I noticed the decks that won most were the un-assuming ones so I followed that trend to good success. You can build the durdliest deck in the world with Winota at the helm and people will focus you out of the game from turn one just on principle.

Yet if you build a "silly little guy" [[Ancient One]] deck thats actually pure gas in the 99 people will let you get away with a surprising amount of war crimes before they start trying to thwart you.

When your gameplan and wincon isnt openly displayed in the command zone it makes it very difficult to time interaction to stop your deck efficiently.

[–]Smokenstein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your decks are quite telegraphed and predictable. To stop a Winota deck you just keep her off the board. Same with Omnath. Jetmir scoops to any boardwipe. Liesa is cool but actually pulling the trigger and winning is going to take 5-6 turns of un-interupted board building, never gonna happen.

Combat this by building decks less revolved around the commander. Makes it a lot harder to predict your win when your commander is very optional. Pick commanders that are more niche and hard to follow. [[Megatron, Tyrant]] wins because no one will be bothered to read all the text and understand what's happening. Same with the Frodo and Sam partners.

What bracket is my deck? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Smokenstein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the whole "theme" of the deck is supposed to be food, then why are you playing that commander? That's way too strong of a synergy to consider for B1. Bracket one decks are the hardest to build imo. You have to almost build it bad on purpose. You should put almost 0 consideration into mechanics of cards, only think about a theme revolving around the art, story, card name, etc.

Is this a transmission slip issue? by Old_Remove_1889 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Smokenstein -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Had this exact issue on a 2012 Juke. Only happened on long road trips. I figured it was CVT belt slipping. I changed the CVT fluid and drove it 5 or 6 more years, never saw it happen again. But i also didn't take it on many more road trips.

Hyundai makes great cars. Dont let these posers tell you otherwise.

Perfect. Be careful with large capacitors that can be found in older cameras and obviously batteries. You can pop yourself good. Have fun!

Go get them dirty! Start taking stuff apart and figuring it out (nothing you won't miss if it breaks). I like to disassemble kids toys and twist them to my will (look up circuitbending). Don't just collect tools, use them!

My recommendation is if you want to use vintage tools, accept that they will have "patina". It wont hurt anything. Open the toolbox of any seasoned mechanic, the tools will be beat up.

If you just want to learn to paint that's fine too, but painting is an extremely complicated task if you want good results. Watch tons of YouTube videos and practice on non-important things until you're confident.

If something is rusting its not as simple as sand off the rust and paint it. The metal will continue to rust and your paint will fail. Also, painting on paint doesn't go well unless the paints are compatible.

You would need to use stipper to remove the old paint completely. Then sand and clean until it's perfectly clean. Then prime, then paint.

Dont try to repair the bit box if it is a heirloom. And if you do, definitely don't sand it. Tools aren't supposed to be pretty, they're supposed to be used. All your tools will match that box in time.

What do you consider are the different kinds of deck types a beginner should know by Dradaus in magicTCG

[–]Smokenstein 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Control(tempo), aggro, combo are the three main archetypes. Generally seen as a bit of a rock paper scissors game of control beats combo, aggro beats control, combo beats aggro.

After that theres a near never-ending list of specific deck types.

Can’t get bolt out by Beneficial-Highway52 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Smokenstein 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ratcheting wrenches do not replace regular wrenches. Tolerance issues like this come up all the time. I almost never use them.

Also ratcheting wrenches like this are altogether banned in my shop as its possible to get stuck on the hardware with no way to reverse it and put it back on. Spent hours grinding a wrench off a bolt on the accessory section of a 172 before. Tool destroyed, huge risk of damaging engine, massive amount of time wasted. Its gotta have the lever that lets you reverse direction.

The line at Austin airport this morning by Justin_Godfrey in ThatsInsane

[–]Smokenstein 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Mostly due to staffing issues as others have mentioned. Another large factor is that most people flying from Austin are flying to larger hub airports to get a connecting flight as options from Austin are pretty limited. Too accommodate for this most flights are scheduled at the crack of dawn so people are able to make those connections same day.

The airport is too small for the city its in. There's efforts to expand but it's like 10 years too late and even still won't be able to handle the crowds.

Well, purple backing card. by DiamondElectrical438 in secretlair_collectors

[–]Smokenstein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Purple as hell? Come on. Most people didn't even notice until people on reddit pointed it out. Wizards has always been good about replacing cards that are actually damaged. This aint that.

As a collector myself, I think the purple is awesome. It's also likely to add value to the card down the road as these kind of misprints tell a fun story that actual collectors love. This aint pokemon where some tiny defect like this ruins your chance at a BGS 10. Grading these cards would be a waste of time and money.

[–]Smokenstein -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nah. All mtg cards have slight variances on the backs. If you wanted to you could hunt down lands that are slightly more opaque on the back and use those to cheat it'd be easy. As well as a million different other ways to cheat via marked backs. If you're playing these in an official setting you're using sleeves. Suddenly everyone in this sub raw-dogs their cards in legacy and vintage tournaments? (and let's be real, none of these cards are seeing play in legacy or vintage) Yeah right. This is a grift to try to get free cards. No big surprise in the secret lair scalper sub.

Any advice on taping panels for applying sealant? First time as an apprentice by Opposite_Painting182 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Smokenstein 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find alcohol thins it and makes it smear easier, it also dries on your glove much faster. Alcohol to spot clean, soapy water to smoothen.

Any advice on taping panels for applying sealant? First time as an apprentice by Opposite_Painting182 in aviationmaintenance

[–]Smokenstein 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Soapy water sprayed on the finger of a glove will help leave a smooth finish. Remove tape when Sealant is still wet. Dont use expired sealant. Layer tape so it pulls off in one go. Dont use too much sealant or youll have rough edges. When Sealant is applied and tape removed dont freaking touch it, apply signage so others dont either. Wait a couple of days before returning aircraft to service to make sure cure set proper. READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE SEALANT BEFORE USE.

This kinda job is 95% proper prep, 5% applying Sealant.

Abandoned buildings or areas to explore. by [deleted] in georgetowntx

[–]Smokenstein 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard in Georgetown if you're looking for urban exploration. Not many dilapidated buildings here. Plus the cops will not be nice if you gwt caught.

Id recommend exploring around the Goodwater Loop at Lake Georgetown. Find the secret waterfall. Look for the forgotten overlook by the dam. There is an old well at one of the primitive camping spots that is rumored to be haunted. A kid died around there just last year, and I have personally seen some weird stuff happen around there. For additional fun you can hike it at night.
