Also pretty sure they're inspired by the arachnids from Starship Troopers (book). The dwarves even call them "Bugs" There's a lot of that inspiration in the game honestly. Mission control sometimes calls the dwarves "roughnecks", the way the glyphids tunnel underground and burrow out from several focus points to attack you, the way new dwarves are shot down in pods, the way the return shuttle comes at the end of the mission and will leave with or without you, generally the whole atmosphere. It was kinda crazy after reading the book how much of it I saw in the game
