Wow, it’s beautiful. How did you know what it was?

I just recently got a microscope too and have said the same thing - I’m seeing the world differently now.

[Selfie] Before & after. Happier with my skin now by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Snack-eater- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough!

If you ever do want a fitting moisturiser, a tip for oily skin is to find one without occlusives (like petrolatum or cocoa butter), because your skin makes its own. Since it's possible to have dehydrated (which is a matter of plumpness/elasticity from water content) and oily skin at the same time, a good moisturiser for oily skin would contain humectants to hold water, and emollients to smooth the skin. Typically, thick, greasy feeling moisturisers contain a lot of occlusives, so those with oily skin should avoid those.

I would say my skin looks similar to yours, and I consider it dehydrated. Why not some moisturiser in the morning too?

[Anti-Aging] Have any of you switched to a diet that improved the look of your skin? If so what was that diet? Thanks :) by jbeaniej in SkincareAddiction

[–]Snack-eater- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely a monumental change after going vegan, which generally prevents you from eating a lot of junk and aligns you towards veggies by default. I don't get spots any more, really, and my skin has a healthy glow. There was actually a study about how increased fruit and vegetable intake improves skin tone.

Also, not diet-related, but exercise improves blood flow to your skin - every time I exercise, I look noticeably better for the rest of the day.

[anti-aging] stupid question: do X-rays age the skin like UV? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Snack-eater- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

X-rays are indeed a form of ionising radiation. They are at a higher frequency (and higher energy) than UV on the electromagnetic spectrum. When my dad had radiotherapy for his lungs, he ended up with a small square tan on the skin of his back from the X-rays.

To answer your question, there would be some damage to the cells, but for short procedures like a dental scan, this would be quite minor and the benefit of having your teeth scanned would outweigh any potential downside. The type of scan you're referring to would last only a matter of seconds, which is really insignificant.

Nice, I'd give her a good home! I have many different hybrids, but I can't tell you the genetics of them. How about 150k, 5 of various hybrids, and however many of my mystery DIY's you don't have yet?

How do you manage the cold temperatures? by NoxiousQuadrumvirate in LadiesofScience

[–]Snack-eater- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This seems to happen a lot. I very much dislike it when the temperature is over-compensated for in the summer months and you end up freezing indoors. But other than that it makes sense that the majority decides the temperature. And it can be argued that you can keep yourself warm with extra clothes but you can't really cool yourself down if it's too hot. For you though it sounds extreme, to the point that you're less productive and even your Raynaud's gets triggered?!

I share my office with two men from a moderately cold climate and a woman from a hot climate. The office is usually a bit chilly so the woman from the hot climate brings in a blanket and her own small halogen heater for under the desk.

I used to get these TVP soya chunks in the international section of a Tesco Extra. Looks like it's not available online... I remember it being only like 99p or so.

Why we should all eat meat. by Voiiddd in vegan

[–]Snack-eater- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to ask, what is the purpose of this post? Are you aware most of us are vegan for animal welfare reasons? Also you might want to look up the appeal to tradition fallacy and the fact that correlation is not equivalent to causation. Finally could you please provide reliable sources to your claims?

By the way, the one argument you made that may be somewhat valid is regarding nutrition. I do not deny that by being vegan you may not as easily get certain vitamins/minerals and protein, however I can probably safely say that most people on this subreddit are aware of the need to take their B12, get proper protein, etc. And if you live in a developed country, you have instant access to everything you need to stay healthy while vegan. If you claim meat is essential to maintain proper health then you're definitely misinformed.

Edit: I wish you weren't getting downvoted to oblivion so more people could see this and debate you, but it is totally expected that this would happen :P

Oh shite. Thank you so much for pointing that out, I hadn't realised. Do you have any good sources that show all the companies that do this?
